USC/UMich/UF/UW

"Should be good at the others with possible exceptions being UW and UF, they are very numbers based,"

You have a very good chance of getting into UF. Epecially since you are in state.

What if someone from my summer sportswriting internship is also applying to USC? He and I were the only ones from my HS who got the internship. He is in IB and has a better GPA and test scores. He is unsure of his major though he is a well rounded kid. He also has one of the same letters of rec (from the same guy).

AM I SCREWED FOR USC?

It's not fair!! I want to go there WAY more than him! He doesn't even want to go there. He wants to go to Princeton!! :(

....anyone??

bump.......

I don't know anything about the other schools, but I'd say UF is a good chance. GPA is really good, ACT is prob. higher end of mid range. But who knws with UF anyway. . . everyone is applying and they are getting more and more selective.

Good luck with USC!

Thank you!!

just got a letter from UMich....

deferred.

can you even get rejected early action from UMich?

your gpa is really good but your act is kinda low for like umich where they really go by test scores..

However you should def get into all of your other schools cept umich (if your uncle does have pull at USC).

umich is a slight reach though

UMich also does not have a journalism school. I would have to be a Communications major. My essays for all my schools talk about how much I love journalism. So the UMich admissions were probably like why the hell do you want to go here-- there is no journalism school. Haha I really like UMich tho. They still have a stellar newspaper at their school.

Anyways about USC.. aww, my dream school. They have an AMAZING school of journalism. My uncle is working on his letter this week and sending it in soon. I really hope that will give me a boost. I feel like I've done all I can. I mean I flew from FL to Pennsylvania to have a 30 minute interview. I hope that that showed them how much I care about going there :/ I know my ACTs are fairly low but the average was 28-32. I hope they see that although I can't ace standardized testing, in the long run, I can still be successful in a journalism field.

bump #3947238

c'mon, is there anyone who can chance me? i'll return the favor!

Your admission to USC depends on how much they care about that unusual legacy status. If they don't care, I don't know if you'd get in or not. The ACT score is not great.

I'd say in at UW, probably.

I see :(
Thanks for the input though!

I'm working on my USC app. Trying to make my essay as perfect as possible. One of the topics is to write about an event that impacted you. My event is moving during my junior year across the US and how changing schools sparked my journalism passions. The essay is about how much I love to write and about all my experiences and how each opportunity has developed my passion. Is this a good idea? Or too cliche or boring? Please help! The app is due Jan 10th!

Just a thought, if you are looking into sport writing, some schools have Sport Communications as a major which places students into sports media jobs. I had a speaker who came to my sport communication class at Indiana who had just graduated from Indiana's SC program, he worked for the Tampa Bay area radio company and covered the sports talk for the Buccaneers, USF Bulls, Lightning, and Devil Rays. I would strongly suggest Indiana if you are looking to go into journalism and sports, Indiana has a top 10 journalism school and a sports communication school. It sounds like you are sure on USC which is also a great journalism school and in a much better job market.

A suggestion the class was given from the guy who got the job at the Tampa Radio station was to subscribe to was Sports Casting Jobs- Find career on-air, sports casting, production, photography, sales, sports director or any other sports related position Jobs in sports He said that the site was specific to sports media and helped him land his Tampa Bay job, which he said was difficult because it was a major market and he was just a college graduate with no experience.

I'm sorry, but being a Floridian myself, I'm going to have to disagree with a statement you made.

"The Orlando Sentinel is the top newspaper in Florida"

I've never even heard of it. Sun Sentinel on the other hand is prolly the top newspaper. So if you're applying to UF don't say Orlando Sentinel is the top newspaper. Haha, sorry for bashing you.

The Sun Sentinel and the Orlando Sentinel are owned by the same company... but, I guess it's one of the top newspapers in Florida. I did not say that it was the top newspaper in my applications though.

..................

just submitted my UW app
and will submit my BU app tmrw

and my USC app
hah i completed it all but i want to double check it like 83794923 times because it's my DREAM SCHOOL <3

Im an international student and i submitted my USC application a month ago.anyways i dont know whether others would believe me or not but from what i have heard and seen and friends i know who have been to USC with not very impressive but decent above average scores do tend to get in there.

My brother went to USC so i guess that is a legacy, in all my answers i mentioned my brother a lot, basically telling how i really want to get in there because my brother went there and it is true. Its my dream school, and its basically the first school i ever thought of..
i applied to the annenberg school of communication.and well according to ur stats... ur act score is low but dont worry cuz they keep alomst 15% people with that act score and you just might be one of them and the fact that u have had a good journalism experience and ur reccomendations is going to help a lot.they just dont look at one thing, they look at the overall...and from that perspective you can pretty much get in there.keep your hopes high...and dont forget that they know u flew in all the way for a 30 minute interview, colleges love to keep students who show a lot of interest.if you really want to get in there keep checking up on ur application and mailing them to show your interest...not annoyingly but just to show ur interested.

goodluck :)

thank you so much :)
i REALLY hope you are right!

good luck to you too!
