USC vs. UCLA

Hi all, I have been accepted to both UCLA and USC. I am in state so USC is much more expensive. However, I cannot decide which school to attend. I am undeclared. When I was accepted USC invited me for an interview for a half ride scholarship. In the end, I was downgraded to a quarter ride. UCLA, on the other hand, made me a regent scholar and an alumni scholar. I have visited both schools, and liked both. The problem is, I have grown up loving USC's spirit and the trojan family, so this makes me want USC. However UCLA seems to want me more. It is also much cheaper. I can afford either way, but of course cheaper is very nice. What do you guys think? Thanks.

Can you afford USC? If you will incur more debt to go to USC, it’s not worth it

Luckily for me, my parents are willing to pay for my undergrad. They can afford USC without going into debt. It may make it difficult for them to help as much with grad school however.

LOL : Bruins vs. Trojans. Guaranteed whichever school you go to, you will wind up hating the other out of loyalty to your own.

But seriously, I think UCLA wins both because they want you and because of cost. The academics are very comparable. Use the extra money toward a down payment on a house.

I personally prefer UCLA to USC and given what they are offering I would take UCLA hands down. Either way you will have an excellent experience, but I think you will have more opportunities at UCLA.

I strongly recommend UCLA.

But I’m a little biased :)

School spirit/athletics/environment wise both are fairly comparable. Go with what is cheaper. The area around UCLA is MUCH nicer, alot of my 'SC buddies spend quite a few weekends in Westwood.

On a side note, UCLA alumni scholarship is sort of a rip off --at least when I was there. When I was there a stipulation of the award was a certain amount of community service for UCLA a year. So it was essentially a job.

ucla, better neighborhood, cheaper, super nice campus, high ranking, and im sure your family wouldnt mind you being a bruin if you saved them a couple thousand dollars

Thanks for the replies guys!
Update: I was accepted into USC’s prestigious thematic option honors program. Still not sure where I’m going to go but maybe that changes some of your opinions. Thanks!

I love both schools and they are both in my Ds top 3. However, given California’s current financial state, I would probably choose USC. I’ve heard of classes filling up at the publics, and students not getting the courses they really want. Might be getting better…I’d look into it.

USC is pretty expensive compared to UCLA so you should make your decision based on your financial circumstances
