USF Math Requirement

Hi,

I am currently doing my USF application and I noticed it said on the page below that they require one year of math above and beyond Algebra 2.

http://www.usf.edu/admissions/freshman/app-requirements/course-requirements.aspx

I am currently in Algebra 2 as a senior, does this mean that I don’t meet their requirements and I am not eligible to apply?

One thing to note also is that my school combines Algebra 2 and Trig into a single class so would that fulfill the requirement?

I don’t see how you can get credit for Algebra 2 and Trig from the same class. Is the first semester Algebra 2 and the second semester Trig? If so then you would just need another semester of higher math on your transcript like per-calculus or geometry. The admission people at USF are some of the nicest I have ever met. Give them a call. If your math doesn’t meet their requirement, consider taking an online math course your second semester. Good luck.

I took geometry before I took Algebra 2 so would that work?

I believe so, One of my son’s math after Algebra 2 was Analytical Geometry. If you have already applied to USF then you have been assigned a regional recruiter. He/she would be very helpful.

USF is looking for four maths, that means Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, plus another “above and beyond” (PreCalc, Trig/Functions).

Some districts sequence Algebra I, Algebra II then Geometry to keep the Algebras together, but Algebra II is still the more advanced of the three.

There is some Trig in Algebra II Honors, also in PreCalc. But there is usually still a separate Trig/Analysis of Functions class.
