My son has a Congressional nomination, and has been medically and scholastically qualified since last fall. However, I have read on this site that kids have been triple qualified. Does this include the CFA? My son has never received any word on it at all. He has an e-mail from Academy that they received it last October. We asked his BGO months ago about his score and he says he gets no info on CFA's. His last correspondence from admissions was last November. Since April 15th has come and gone, I am officially a wreck and think we may have dropped the ball on the CFA? Can anyone shed some light? Thanks.

yes, triple qualified refers to academically, physically (CFA), and medically. There are still quite a few people who have not heard by april 15th - you are not alone. It isn't over yet!

But did you get a letter regarding CFA? His scores were received last October. Shouldn't he have a response to his scores by now?

you do not receive a letter regarding CFA scores. The Application Guidance for the Class of 2010 states: To be fully qualified for an appointment, you must (1) have an official nomination, (2) be found scholastically and medically qualified, and (3) complete the candidate fitness assessment (CFA).

No, the only acknowledgement you get is from the CIS. It says recieved October 17 or whatever. The Triple Qualified letter means his scores were acceptable. I believe.

Thanks, I hope you are right. Congratulations, by the way. I've seen a few of your posts. When did you get in?

Thanks for the clarification. I think I do remember reading somewhere in the Candidate Survival Guide that they will take the scores into consideration when deciding

Thank you. I found out in the middle of February. Keep up hope!!!..hopefully I will see you June 28th.

If son is competitive scholastically and CFA was deficient, they WOULD notify him and give him the chance to re-submit.

Thank you for the information regarding CFA qualification. Since he received no such request for re-submittal of CFA, I can go to sleep now and not worry about that part! What I do not understand, is why his BGO did not just tell him that when he asked about it a few months back.

That sounds wierd, I guess sometimes you can have a BGO that isn't that great. Without this site, it would be really hard to get a lot of info on USNA.

I consider many people on this site far more knowledgable than my BGO.. im wondering now if he actually went to USNA.. sigh

hahaha....CC = the ultimate BGO

Ouch.

jjlmom...our daughter's closest friend, a childhood friend in fact, like your son, STILL has not heard one peep, yes or no, as of yesterday. He is QQQ'd, too...was contacted by Admissions in January and told to submit his senior year first semester transcripts...and was offered a CWV which he took in Feb. Still no word on him either, and it's PAST April 15th.

Now, the hardest thing for us is that this young man is coming down with his family to spend a few days with us ( standard stuff, all these years during spring breaks) and here we are knee deep in filling out USNA forms, making doctor's appts, etc...but don't want to even mention the stuff while they are here, it's too hard on us!!!!!!!!!!!!! He and my daughter are clones of each other in terms of high school/military interests/ common training/ etc. etc. .... She gets an LOA in early Oct...he hears nothing. I know she had much higher SAT scores...is that why??? She's a girl, is that why?? It's driving this mom crazy, anyway.

Congratulations to your daughter, and to you for all the hard work to get her to this point! How exciting it must be for you all! In hearing you talk about all the things that have to be taken care of, it is hard to just brush all of that under the rug while your guests are visiting. Hopefully, they will understand. If it were me, I'd clear the air after they get there and just let them know that you are pulling for their son and that you understand it must be frustrating right now. Wow, I don't know if I would have left the mailbox for a vacation, but maybe it's exactly what they need, now. I'm going to try to take this vacation week to do some other things to get our minds off of the subject. I'm officially at the point where I lay in bed at night wondering what else he could have done. By the way, my son did not get a request for January grades and did not get an invite to CWS. He called his Regional Director, but was told he was not on the list for CSW as of January. So...go figure. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in those admissions board meetings.

Well, offers to replace denied appointments such as my son's and Shawna's won't go out before next week. And remember, there are hundreds of other denials, lots of them probably pretty last minute. Keep the faith.

If you're triple Q'd and haven't received a Turn down letter you're still in the hunt. Some candidates will get informed from Mid-May till June 28th. Last year some candidates received a call AFTER induction day (though that is highly unusual but goes to prove that the Administration at least wants a full class to start Plebe summer). My own son has an appointment and is waiting until he completes his CVW this coming week to make a decision. If he chooses not to go, certainly someone else will benefit. It happens all the time. I was a NAPster and was an alternate at USMMA and didn't received an appt and orders to report unitl mid June and I believe didn't get into USNA until late May, maybe early June. It's tough waiting but until they tell you to reapply next year, you're still in the game.

BEST OF LUCK!

I am gonna be honest. Navy is jerking you around (take this is the least personal/hard/bad way). I don't mean they are not interested. What I mean is they are notorious to making people WAIT for their appointments. Maybe they don't really mean to make it come out that way. But I have heard numerous stories of how May 1st, the letter goes that you have an appointment. Its as if they want to see if you held out. Now, I would not take the risk if you have appointments elsewhere, and that seems to be what they want to see. If you are 100% commited to Navy. Maybe I got the wrong idea, maybe they are just really busy who knows. Sure seems like it though!

All I know is I was appointed over a month ago (found out from my senator), and then later directly contacted admissions and discovered I was in. But wait! No letter and April 17th. I can't imagine if I just sat on my but and waited.

Another note: mention your applying to West Point and USAFA to any Navy admissions...they take it personal. They can't understand why you would bother. My BGO seemed overtly offended, and hasn't seemed very friendly since I mentioned I got appointment from WP.

Brings to mind two senarios:
-Got rejected from VMI (before I completed my application. Why? Cause I was accepted to the Citadel)....hmm doesn't this remind you of...
-The girl who applied to the USNA 4 years in a row, and finally got in during her Junior year at Georgetown. Instead of finishing, she went Navy.

Please don't bust on BGO officers. Many of us have full time jobs and 15 or more candidates. (That is a lot of paperwork!)
To be honest, I often feel that there are times I have posted and that answers provided are found "offensive" to both candidates and/or parents.
My persona is to give it to you straight, both from USNA experience as well as a BGO and nomination committee member. If you could only see it from our side, in a stack of candidates each one is an incredible individual with great academic, athletic, volunteer, and community service, as well as a strong desire to serve our great Nation!
You should all be proud of yourselves for making it into the candidate pool, there are many who desire the USNA but never receive a candidate number. Also, please, do not give up hope for an appointment to the USNA if you are not chosen for Summer Seminar, there are MANY who are now Midshipmen that were unable to attend.
Please remember that our Information System (the computer system that holds all of your data) is only as current as what USNA provides to us.
We are only the messenger...please don't shoot us!
And please remember, we are rooting for each and every one of you, it is our job to present you to the appointment board!

RS,
BGO Officer
Go Navy!
