I concur with you candidate mom....and thank you for all your help to us on the forum and for your work as a BGO. I recall how naive I was about the role of BGO's last year...I thought you all were 'full time' Academy folk! I recall the smile on our BGO's face when he set me straight. Also, since then, a local mom of a current junior has contacted me...her son wants to go USNA. I helped her locate his BGO with an online contact. She emails me in panic after 48 hours asking if he was being 'rude' for not replying yet. Poor woman, she IS a nervous one. I assured her that her BGO would respond, told them basically what you just wrote about it's a volunteer job, they're busy folk, etc. etc. Bottom line? it's one month later and the mom has called me back to thank me for helping her. The son has not only communicated via email with the BGO, he's met him and the father has met the BGO separately..and the process for the Class of 2011 has begun with the family!

Believe me, my husband and I and our son have a great appreciation of our BGO!!! What a wonderful experience we had with ours. He was absolutely incredible and such a great role model for our son. I have not seen him since my son received his Appointment, but believe me when I do I am going to give him a huge hug!

Thanks to all the BUSY BGOs!

I've always been amazed by people who do that. One guy in the Class of 1992 did the same thing, but out of Purdue. He only applied once, though.

Unreal. THAT, ladies in gentlemen, is DESIRE.

There is a girl in my area who GRADUATED UCSB and is now going to attend the naval academy.

Yeah, but she's from California. Insanity is common there. ;)

J/K. Good for her! :)

not wait a minute YOUNG MAN ( compared to me, you are a Young Man, Zaphod)....Insanity is common among Californians, yes, but not ME, OK????!!!

I am not busting on BGO's. I want to make that perfectly clear. I simply said I did not know why my son's BGO did not tell him that he would only hear on a CFA if it was an unacceptable score, and he had to re-submit.
I am grateful to the person who did clarify the CFA notification issue for us.

You must understand that although BGO's have much information at hand, they are NOT suppose to share info with the candidates for the most part, especially if that information will cause undue optimism or disappointment.

So, you feel the BGO did not tell him of the procedure regarding CFA, because he did not want to create false optimism? In actuality, it worked opposite. Because this was not clarified for him, he has spent the last few months wondering if there was a problem with his CFA. To me it was clearly a procedural question. He just wanted to know why he had not heard anything on his CFA. Am I wrong to assume that?

Our BGO was terrific- and his advice, council, guidance, encouragement, candor and marine-straight honesty continues to be greatly appreciated.

CM- thank you for your candid comments- you bring another whole dimension to the discussion, and provide the parents another perspective into the process from a vantage point we are not privy to- and I especially appreciate the time you take to answer the questions and concerns posted on CC with patience and with the same straight-talk our BGO afforded our son.

Thankyou!

I'm actually rather impressed that I can WRITE it better than I can SAY it! :D

Please, let me set the record straight.
BGO DO NOT know what your son/daughter's CFA score is, only the candidate knows what is submitted.
Our system only notes whether the paperwork HAS or HAS NOT been received by the Academy, and the Academy is the one who updates that information.
There are occasions when your son/daughter knows something BEFORE we do because our information system has not been updated.

Thank you

Thank you navy2010!
I understand the emotions are running thick and deep, our family has gone through the same experience, and believe me that even though we are BGOs we are were not privy to anything more than you all know!
That is why it is my intention to provide you information that we are permitted to pass along to you, to help ease your concerns.
My blood flows "Navy Blue & Gold" (with a little Blue & Orange being infused....) I know Zaphod, I'll go get the "chuck bag" :)
