since someone in the duke forum asked this question... i just wanna know you guys' opinion.
Hopkins is ranked 14th in USNEWS national university ranking.
Since the acceptance rate dropped significantly this year (27% to 20%... according to what I've heard), what do you think JHU's rank gonna be next year?

No, and with very simple reason. EVERYONE’S acceptance rate dropped. By the way, US News doesn’t give much weight to acceptance rate in their ranking system.

yeah. that is obvious. but JHU’s acceptance rate SIGNIFICANTLY dropped this year. you can find some information about this on CC…
and i know that USNEWS ranking doesnt matter much. im just curious wat JHU’s rank would be next year… and you look like you are going to emory. Im asking current JHU students…

Who cares? JHU’s rank seems to “suffer” compared to peer institutions because it does not play the rankings game as much as other colleges.

The rankings are a year BEHIND the admissions cycle - so this year will publish 27% and NEXT august will publish 20%.

^ Interesting, I never knew that!

@WealthofInformation

I thought USNEWS ranking was 3 years behind?

haha wow. lol this is going nowhere.

I think that JHU should advertise that they are number 9 in the us according to the QS world rankings (13 in the world) and ahead of stanford. That should boost their yield and lower their admit rate. JHU seems to be a very underrated school.

^^ Completely under-rated.

It’s because everyone sees JHU as solely a pre med factory. yea it probably has more pre meds than other schools probably for there’s oh so much more than meets the eye

If JHU did a bit more marketing of their school I guarantee that their ranking would be significantly higher.

^^ But ranking isn’t based on marketing, JHU already has one of the highest peer-review scores of any school. It’s more about how USNews calculates - so increasing your endowment or your predicted graduation and actual graduation differences, or alumni giving.

I think JHU and Chicago produce some of the most outstanding students around right out of undergrad, but that’s just me.

WealthOfInformation: I agree with you. And I don’t like it when people say that Chicago has far superior academics to Hopkins. I view them as quite equal. I didn’t apply to Chicago because it didn’t seem like the right school for me and I felt that if I were to get into there and Hopkins that I still would have chosen Hopkins.

Chicago is a crazy-good school. Hopkins and Chicago are good at different things, though (for example, Chicago is ranked 1 or 2 in the fields that interest me-primarily math and economics, but Hopkins is far superior in almost anything biology related).

I am not saying that Chicago isn’t a crazy-good school; I am just saying that I think that it is on the same level academics wise as Hopkins. Furthermore, at the undergrad level, either one being “better” in a specific field doesn’t affect students as much.
