I might be too late with this, but I’m currently a first year who appealed UT and got in. Just because you got CAP at UT doesn’t mean you won’t get into other schools. I got into two schools with a lower admissions rate than UT.
If UT is where you want to go, appeal. It doesn’t hurt to try, but it is difficult to over turn the initial decision. My counselor told me that in all her years, only two students, including myself, got in off appeal.
That said, the most successful appeals are the ones with high achieving students that weren’t an auto admit and have a reason to appeal. If you don’t feel like you fit into that category, still appeal. You never know. They use the appeals as a wait list.
In my appeal, I wrote about the progress I made with establishing the Science Olympiad chapter at my school. I reminded them of my high grades and test scores(3.9 GPA and 33 ACT) and my ties to the school(I participated in a research program over the summer with them).
Feel free to message me if you have any other questions!
My new compelling information was the creation of the Science Olympiad chapter at my high school, which is a national organization. I reminded them that my strong grades demonstrated that I could succeed at UT, and my involvement in their FRI summer research showed my passion for the school.
I called admissions this afternoon and they said the current plan was to release appeal decisions today after hours. He was very non comital so who knows?
