Got rejected from Business Honors last night, still no word on admission. OOS.
Has anyone heard from any performing/visual arts program regarding decisions yet?
@anitapitamom no decision yet. My son has an interview Saturday for music composition.
@TexasMom2017 Good luck to him!!
@anitapitamom thank you!! Good luck to yours, too!
Guys decisions are going to come out the 17th of this month. The first wave came out on December 16th which was the third Friday of the month. The second wave came out on January 20th which was also the third Friday of the month. It just makes sense that it will come out this 17th.
It’s usually a Friday. I haven’t gotten any weird MyStatus emails . Guess it affect those who are still in review. I’m assuming these emails are the standard check MyStatus. UT got a new system recently so that might be the reason. Three weeks or so left. Hook 'em horns! I think that’s the phrase. How is this thread not on fire yet?
@AngelFoxtrot Have you got your decision yet?
I didn’t get any weird email either but my application status says it’s still in review. Does that mean they already have a decision waiting for me?
@sean191297 Yes, the 20th. Most likely they probably have. I’ve met a UT admissions officer and they said that all applications have already been reviewed. I guess what they’re doing now is pondering on the borderline applicants. I still don’t know why they release them in waves instead of steady streams. I guess they want their servers to catch fire 25~ days from now, when all freshmen applicants will hear back.
I don’t remember the wait being so agonizing when I went through it.
My son only applied to UT. Lived in TX for 16 years before he moved to Long Island when we relocated. So he’s an OOS applicant. He wants to do computer engineering, but I think that’s out of reach for him. Chose unspecified business as a second choice, which didn’t help his cause much as that too is competitive and you have to put it as a first choice to get accepted at McCombs. He’s an IB student with a 3.73 GPA weighted on a 4.0 scale. All A’s except for IB Sports, Exercise, Health Science where he can’t seem to pull it up from a C. Test scores are a little low. 26 on ACT and 1290 after 2 attempts on the (new) SAT. We didn’t expect him to “freeze” as he’s generally a good test taker. 700 of that was on Math, his best subject. Great essays from a personality aspect, but he didn’t hammer why he would be a good fit for CE. He’s a little weak on the resume. Played football throughout HS, did volunteer work as an IB requirement and interned at a computer programming business last summer. Because NY salaries are based on cost of living, doubt that he will qualify for financial aid.(We’re over the $199,999 benchmark)
If he doesn’t get it, he’ll go to UT Dallas, where we know that he will be admitted. We still have a house in Dallas that he can use. But, I really want him to have the college experience rather than attend a commuter school where he will go back to the house and sit instead of meeting people and learning to live with a dorm mate. He’s social, but he isn’t going to seek it out. That’s not a bad consolation prize as UTD is a good school for his chosen career, but still. It’s not the dream.
Good luck everyone
I actually think they are rolling for a lot of majors. For performing arts, in 2015 and 2016 they came out the first week of February. But, I think you are right that there is a big wave of admissions on the 17th.
The next big wave will almost definitely be on a Friday, as long as UT keeps up with the same pattern. That is not to say, though, that some students will probably not hear back until then. I expect a few people will be wave outliers and find out on a completely non-wave date. That’s what happened to me. I know of almost no one who heard back on the same day as me, with the exception of about two or three people on twitter.
So in this next expected wave, will it be freshman admits or just random admissions to people who already got in that are waiting to hear about a specific major?
For those guessing on dates, the BHP wave of decisions came out this week – 2 weeks earlier than in prior years. This MAY indicate that McCombs decisions are finalized earlier than in prior years.
The University of Texas website says that freshman applicants for fall 2017 can expect a decision no later than March 1. That’s just 4 weeks away! If you receive your decision earlier, consider it a bonus! Although some applicants already know they’ve been accepted, Texas doesn’t offer Early Decision and you will hear from UT before the Ivies release their admissions decisions later this spring.
There’s no need to be stressed out or ask others here when the next wave of admissions will be released. We don’t work for UT Admissions so any answer you receive is just speculation, based on what happened in prior years. Comparing stats with other applicants is not really helpful either. Even if test scores are identical, every applicant’s essays, letters of recommendation and resumes are different and subjective. And almost every applicant believes they attended a competitive high school. Ultimately we don’t know what Texas Admissions is looking for to create the UT Class of 2021.
You are all smart and headed in the right direction by choosing to attend college after high school. Any university can provide a solid foundation for your future. Make the most of it, whether you’re in Austin or somewhere else next year. Seek out opportunities and learn all you can. You will eventually look back and realize you ended up exactly where you were supposed to be. Good luck!
Just wondering if anyone knows the majority wave release dates of last year? Just curious, I know it could change and no one knows for sure just want to have an idea of past dates. Thanks, any reply would be helpful.
@nduclaunc last year and the year before the last major round of waves that included everything from getting in to not getting in was the 3rd week of this month so around the 17th.
@spankytoes Has he thought about transferring after one year? Thats the decision I have personally come to with UTD if I don’t get into the computer science program at UT. I’ve heard doing a year at UTD isn’t too bad and transferring is relatively easy if you do well in your classes. UTD isn’t ideal for me either and I’m kind of wondering how many people will end up there next year with hopes of transferring.
@kats1234 How about TAMU?
Got an email back from UT about the messed up emails
“Jasmine, We inadvertently sent you an email (or two!) congratulating you on your admission to the Cockrell School of Engineering. As you probably know, these emails were sent in error and you may safely disregard them. Please accept our apology for the inconvenience and confusion, and our congratulations again on your admission to the McCombs School of Business.”
