UT Austin Class of 2021 Thread

Last year’s last big wave started on the 3rd Friday in February (19th) late in the day, 5pm and continued throughout the weekend. In 2015, my son got his acceptance on the 3rd Thursday in February (19th) around 2pm. His friend received her rejection the next day. The school has to let everyone know by March 1st. I think they want the envelopes to reach the applicants homes by March 1st so they mail them out on that third Friday, traditionally. My status is updated at that time. There have been rumors that high school counselors have been notified that tomorrow will be the day.

I would sincerely like to thank all the moms and dads in this thread for keeping it productive, informative. Always posting words of caution and inspiration and taking a stand when needed. Y’all rock <3

@TexasMom2017 Some of us are 23 just trying to get started :wink:

Thank you @TexasMom2017 for making it official! So “this week” it is!

@GojiraHD : 23, 18, what’s the difference, haha. But seriously. I didn’t even decide on a career til I was 23. You’ll do fine.

I love how supportive everyone is here, especially the parents. :slight_smile:

Can I ask why everyone thinks it is tomorrow? My son got in two years ago on the third Thursday in February around lunch time. Why doe we think it is going to be Friday this year? This year we are waiting on our younger son. OOS so it is such a crap shoot! We just want to know!

So today result ll come ??? @Momofboys71

@momofboys71 even when they start releasing decisions, it seems to take a while for them all to roll out. like, maybe more than 24 hours. I would just assume sometime in the next few days.

I am not saying it will be today just wondering why everyone thinks it is tomorrow. Today would be awesome! We just need to know. Will it be McCombs at UT or Leeds at CU Boulder??? Exciting times!!!

From last years history, the last big wave was on the 3rd Friday of February. And on the UT Austin counselor site, it says, “Some 2017 applicants have already received admission offers, but many additional students will hear this week that they have been admitted to UT Austin.” From what I can tell, it seems that they’re indicating that a big wave will come out on Friday as it was posted on the 10th and Friday is the 17th. Who knows, it might actually start this afternoon for all we know.

@svk12345
I got neuro with a 2260 SAT/ 34 ACT/ rank of 30 (but not 8%)

I’m sure it will be posted here as soon as anyone finds out anything. Everyone is assuming Friday since that’s when it’s usually released. Two years ago it was a complete surprise that some of the acceptances were released on that Thursday. If memory serves, it was just acceptances that Thursday. The rejections came out the next day, Friday. My son did get an email about 2 hours before my status was updated telling him to check it.

Two years ago it was the exact opposite for my son! My status was updated with his acceptance two hours before we got the email telling us to check My Status! This stuff will drive you NUTS! :slight_smile:

:)) Technology! Hoping for Thursday happy surprises for everyone!

I’m wondering when do I need to send in my AP scores? Is it after the acceptance?

Just wanna give a nod to this thread. I have bookmarked all 8 universities I have applied to, and this is the most active, encouraging, and frequent replying thread I’ve been on. UT is definitely something special.

To those OOS students striving for admission, thank you. Because if I get in tomorrow, I will appreciate it so much more because of how much you all enjoy the school and would like to be admitted. Living in Texas I take the university for granted and want “adventure” and new sights out of state with other universities I’ve been accepted to (Florida, Clemson, etc) at the end of the day, UT is a great school that I should be more subjective and open minded when thinking about because you all made me realize even further that getting admitted and having the option to attend UT is a privilege, and I would have IS tuition for one of the best universities in the country that happens to be in my backyard.

Also- SPECIAL S/O to the PARENTS!!! I barely know students who know about this page, (literally might be the only senior at my school who checks this) let alone parents. Mine would never take the time to find a thread like this, even further be active with it and check frequently. That’s great. Lucky kids.

That 15,000 admitted freshmen is different from someone else saying it was going to be 19,000 admitted freshmen this year. I was hopeful my son might be in the 8,500 left to get admissions but if the other person was right saying that 10,500 have already received their admissions then there are not as many spots left as I had thought but then again I’m not sure which information is really correct, I would assume the 15,000 because it was actually associated with something I could see for myself.

Based on data from previous years, roughly 70% admitted come from auto-admit thus 10500/15000 is an estimate for those who have already gotten in. The rest ~4500 still need to hear back. When thought of it this way, it does bring a lot of anxiety because the numbers seem small but no one should give up until March!!
