For the engineering porgam ,Only top10% of your major can get into honor porgam, but you can still aply honors after you enter UT-just keep your gpa above 3.5.
UT Engineering Honors decisions probably won’t come out until March.
How is the top 10% of the major determined ?
I Don’t know, but I think you need something good and different than others. When my son (class of 2017, graduated last may) was a freshman at UT ECE honor programs, a professor asked students in their class to see how many students placed 1st or 2nd on their high school class, almost half of the students raised their hands. My son was placed 4th, top1%, on his high school class. He was taking IB diploma during high school Junior year, but also took 7AP exams, included Calculus BC, physics, biology, static … 5 scored5, others scored 4. ACT 35, Physics 800, Biology 790, Math 2 760. In UT ECE, you can just random pick a student, and asked their profile. No surprise to see those students got almost perfect score on SAT/ACT and SAT subject test. Most AP scored 5. I don’t mean you can’t get in to honor if you are not in that category, just let you know what my son told me about his ECE class porfile. Also during engineering Don’t worry if you can’t get in this time, you still can apply after you enter UT.

Thanks for the detailed info… That’s a very impressive profile I should say. . My son happens to be in the top 3% . 1540 in SAT 800 in Math 2 and 730 in Physics . Took a few AP exams with decent results . He is accepted in BME. Do u remember when did they let him know of their honors decision ?
In 2013, the decisions for the engineering honors program and scholarship offers started going out to students in January, but not everyone got them at the same time. I think every year is different. My daughter is still waiting for her major from UT (first choice -computer science , second -ECE)She is auto admitted. SAT 1540(math800), SAT math2 790, physics 760. Hope she can get in to her first choice.
@coolplant my D had similar stats in addition to ACT 36, was auto admit, applied ECE, confirmed mid Dec, waiting on honors now. Hope everyone hears back soon.
Yep… let’s hope all of us hear it soon …
Anyone here about School of Engineering acceptance?
Just what many others are posting:
“We’re still reviewing your application for the Cockrell School of Engineering.
Thank you for submitting your application to The University of Texas at Austin and your interest in the Cockrell School of Engineering! Given the number of applications we’ve received and the increasing demand for some programs, we find that we must complete an additional review of your application before making a final decision.
We will do everything we can to provide a decision notification efficiently and no later than Feb. 27. Thank you for your patience and interest in UT Austin!
Check the Admission tab for information about the current status of your application for general admission to the university.”
@jsg2018 are you auto admit?
@MTM542577, in-state, non-auto (homeschooled)
Some on the other UT Austin 2020 thread are posting that they were rejected for engineering
@jsg2018 I am sorry you will have to wait. Did you apply priority?
Not an engineering major here but one of my friends who’s outside the top 10% with a 1360 SAT just got into Petroleum!
You must be trolling. My son has 32 ACT and top 4% auto admit and got rejected for biomedical.
