@gwalk956 you have a promising GPA though they are going to wait until the end of May to notify you since you have less than 30 credit hours. The first wave of students who will receive a decision will be those over 30 hours, and the second wave will be those under 30 hours. I’m not sure how competitive your applied major is, though I know of people who had 3.8s with promising resumes (excellent extracurriculars, honors, whole nine yards), and they were denied by the College of Liberal Arts (arguably the least competitive). While UT’s first step is to weed out those who have below the desired GPA, they move on to look at how relevant your resume is to your first-choice major. They want to prevent students from applying to noncompetitive majors only to switch out of said major once they get in. While your grades pass the test, it also depends on how applicable your essays, courses, and extracurriculars are to the major you chose. Also, even if you have a good GPA, UT also looks at the rigor of your classes. Good luck! I’m waiting to hear back myself.
@finnrules321 ahhh got it. I was homeschooled, so I never really looked into all of the requirements since I knew it wouldn’t apply to me haha. Thanks for the info!
In regards to the “30 hours” for first wave release…is that the hours that you have completed through Fall 2018 or through Spring 2019? My son completed 28 through Fall 2018 but will have 39 through the current semester. Would he be in the first wave release or 2nd wave release?
It’s actually only 24 hours! they changed it this past year so your son should hopefully be hearing back soon!
@MAXDAD You only need 24hrs, not 30hrs, your son should find out along with the people who don’t have to wait for spring 2019 grades. Hopefully, the first wave will be around May 1st.
Just got off the phone with the office of admissions. They said that summer applicants won’t know till mid to late may. Not sure what they’ll do to the fall applicants since I’ve heard summer applicants hear back first. Oh & btw, they do holistic review and give scores. They don’t weed out by GPA. Your application is given a score and put into a system to rank and how ever many people they are taking they create a cut off.
I found another discussion forum like this one and reddit. It’s called discord, just an option to reach more people(:
sadly no one on reddit has gotten their admission decision either
@hornhopeful19 can you give the link?
I tried and CC is flagging it but someone posted it on reddit!! @gigemsis
Go to the UT Austin Admissions subreddit to join the Discord server. The link is at the top.

I spoke with someone from admissions and they said that the people on the phone do not really know what they’re saying. They are just instructed to give certain answers and thats why its always a different answer. So we really don’t know when the first wave is going to happen. I’m hoping for this upcoming Friday. Based on the past few years threads a huge wave comes out the last Friday in April, but thats just a guess.
That makes sense. I don’t think the admission representatives would have extensive knowledge on when decisions would be released since they’re not the ones doing the reviewing.
Hey guys, I got an alert from FAFSA that a college went in and made a few changes to my FAFSA account. Unfortunately, they don’t say which college specifically. But, I do have reason to believe that it wasn’t my current school. Did this happen to anyone else? Could it have been UT?
@TexasTransfer47 I got that too, it was from UT.
However, I have not received a decision.
should i be worried if i didn’t receive that notification?
Can yall locate what changes were made?
I think people are just receiving emails that say UT has received their FAFSA application. don’t think its anything serious or something to worry about
I got that notification back in March. I don’t think it means much.
