UT Austin "Grace Period for Required Materials" Confusion

Hi there,

I am writing this at 8:00 PM on November 30th. I’ve gotten myself into a little bit of a situation, let me explain:

I’m not going to lie, I last minute decided that I wanted to apply to UT Austin. I hadn’t considered going to a school in Texas until I was watching the Texas vs. Texas Tech football game with my dad yesterday, and he said to me, “Hey, have you looked at applying to Texas?” I started doing some research and I realized that I really like UT Austin. But then I realized that the deadline was in two days, so I got busy grinding on the required essays. As of now, everything in my Coalition application is ready to go and be submitted, except for my transcript. I requested it today (Saturday), but my counselor doesn’t check her email until Monday, and the deadline is December 1st at 11:59 PM. I go into panic mode. But then I remember seeing a little notice about a grace period on the UT Austin website. It reads:

“Grace Period for Required Materials
If you submit your Summer or Fall 2020 application immediately before or on the deadline, we will consider required materials, including essays, transcripts, and the application fee, as on-time if you submit them through 11:59 p.m. (Central) on Monday, December 9. Please note: you won’t be able to use our Document Upload System until we receive your application, which can take up to three days after submission.”

I’m not sure what to do at this point because this notice says that the application needs to be submitted before or on the deadline, but Coalition won’t let me submit the application and pay the fee without having the transcript already uploaded.

Am I misunderstanding this notice? Is the deadline for the whole application postponed until December 9th or do I need to somehow find a way to submit everything except for my transcript? Do I need to transfer my entire application over to the other Texas admissions website in order to use the Document Upload System?

Any help clarifying ASAP would be VERY appreciated!

From,
A very concerned and stressed out student

I also have an unofficial transcript that I could scan onto my computer and upload on Coalition, but I don’t know if they’ll accept that.

hey im in the same situation, but with the required essay that i havent done yet. I cant get to submitting the application without uploading it. SO my thought is that the application as a whole is due on the 9th because it says “we will consider required materials, including essays, transcripts and the APPLICATION FEE, as on time if you submit them through 11:59 p.m. (Central) on Monday, December 9.” This might mean that the fee that you pay to submit it would be due then too.

Get the application uploaded today over “Apply Texas” - you have to have something in today. The Coalition app is a major PIA because it will NOT let you transmit without everything already attached and I don’t this it’s possible for you to upload an unofficial transcript on the coalition app yourself. It has to come through the school counselor.

…I should add this is the first year that UT is taking the Coalition Application so they are unaware of the limitations. In the past they have only take “Apply Texas” (google for the URL, last time I put a link, my post was moderated and this is time sensitive info so want to get it out now). Back when my son was applying, we had a lot of issues with the Coalition app and I spent quite a bit of time on the phone with admissions and they were having issues understanding the requirements of that interface as well. I know it’s a pain to have to do yet ANOTHER application but Apply Texas you can submit without all the supporting documentation

I ended up fidgeting around with Coalition this morning and it let me send in the application without a transcript by checking a box that said I had to request it through Naviance. It didn’t show up last night, but thankfully I found it today! I agree that Coalition is very painful to submit—when I applied to the University of Washington earlier this year I also had some interface issues. However, as of now, my application to UT Austin is submitted and the transcript is requested. Crisis averted! Thank you for your help!

I am in the same position - everything is ready except the Freshman Required Essay, which I plan to submit later as per the grace period. I agree with others that the basic application must be submitted by today’s deadline, so because the Coalition App requires that some document be uploaded for the Freshman Required Essay, I uploaded a Word doc stating that I would be submitting the essay at a later date. When I do submit that essay, I will do so through the UT Austin Document Upload System. Hopefully, this will be acceptable.
