UT Austin lists 3 credits as a requirement in social studies in high school (admissions.utexas.edu/apply/application-materials/high-school-prerequisites/)
As a student from India (CBSE), does studying History, Geography, Economics, and Political Science in Grades 9 and 10 satisfy this requirement? We study these 4 subjects but only write one exam called “Social Science” at the end of the year that covers these subjects. The transcript only lists “Social Science” as a single entity. So is that 1 credit * 2 years (which does not meet the requirement) or is it 4 credits * 2 years (which does) for the purpose of satisfying this requirement?
Internationally educated applicants follow different rules. As a result, this doesn’t apply. You need to be doing very well in your chosen track 11-12 (including in non-specialist subjects) and you need to have done very well in all core subjects 9-10.
Most universities will be familiar with CBSE.
Finally, UT (Austin) is a public university dedicated to the students of Texas. More than 80% come from the state. Then you have athletes and Americans from outside Texas. That leaves very few spots for internationals.
Thank you! Yes, I understand that UT Austin is extremely competitive for international students. It’s definitely a reach, but the math program makes me want to apply there anyway.
The UT-Austin section on the common app explicitly asks for the number of credits for each required subject, including Social Studies. I’m still not sure what to enter there - 2 or 5+? Appreciate any guidance.
How many hours a week each?
Or you could list 1semester each year of each (~4hours for 1 semester=2 h a week= 0.5 credit)- they’ll get your transcript anyway.
