UT Austin ????, VS A&M near full ride. Need advice!

I got declined at UT for the Fall and now I'm really having trouble deciding what I want to do. UT is my dream school and it's where I want to end up going in the end. My plan was originally to reapply in the spring since my senior rank now qualifies my for automatic freshmen admission (whereas my 6th semester rank didn't). Things got complicated when I saw that A&M is offering me 3k off from a full ride. But I really don't want to go to A&M. I'm considering going to A&M for the fall and reapplying in the spring to UT. If UT gives a better or equal offer, I'll transfer. If not, I'll stay at A&M and possibly transfer later. The only problem is that It's uncertain that I'll get accepted to UT since I'll lose my freshmen automatic admission. So what should I do? Should I take my chances and reapply in the Spring to both UT and A&M, risking my near full ride offer, but guaranteeing my admission to UT? Or should I just go to A&M and reapply to UT in the Spring without guaranteed admission?

This is unrelated but is accepting the CAP offer binding in any way, or can I accept it and later decide not to participate?

The CAP offer is not binding. I have heard of students who have went to UTA/UTSA for their first year and liked it so much they stayed there for the rest of their education.

If you really don’t want to go a certain school, then you shouldn’t go. Even if the school might offer comparable academics or atmosphere, because you personally feel you don’t want to be there, you’d probably be miserable there. Of course, if finance is a major issue, definitely take the full ride at A&M. If not, I’d recommend trying once again for UT.

Although, I doubt UT will match A&M’s offer (you mentioned you would only transfer if UT gave a better or equal offer). A&M is known for being much more generous with its merit aid than UT. It really depends on which school you really want to go to. If you go with the first option (reapply in the spring to both schools), you will most likely end up going to UT. If you go with the second option (going to A&M, then apply for transfer), you will most likely end up staying at A&M.
