UT McCombs v Privates at twice the cost

Im in instate at ut mccombs, and i am in top 5%, good stats from VERY competitive public. Pretty sure im guranteed into mccombs and im just wondering if any other college is worth double the cost of ut because my family's income is way too high to get financial aid.

Guranteed? Lots of people are disappointed when the “gurantee” does not materialize. Especially the entitled ones!

If admitted into McCombs as an in-state student, only a handful of universities/programs would be worth considering, most notably Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Stanford, Yale and Penn (only if admitted into Wharton).

However, should you come from a lower income household, many universities may give you sufficient financial aid to bridge the gap in cost of attendance, at which point, you would have more variety to choose from. Similarly, should you come from a wealthy family that can easily cover the difference in cost of attendance, again, there are plenty of options you can choose from if admitted into them. In such cases, your choice would be more for reasons of personal fit than quality.

Out of curiosity, why did you draw the line at these 6 schools/programs? Barring Wharton, these are perhaps the 5 best schools in the US but without knowing the preferences and priorities of the OP its tough to gauge what universities to recommend to him. If he/she is primarily concerned with placement into elite business positions, then other schools like Dartmouth, Williams, Cornell, Duke, Columbia, Northwestern and Georgetown are substantially better (though I wouldn’t recommend Emory, JHU, Vandy or Rice specifically for Finance with McCombs on the table).

If the OP is concerned with having an intimate academic experience, then the list grows even longer and a number of LACs should be tacked on. I’m a huge fan of UT-Austin but there are more than 6 schools/programs in the country that are worth paying more to attend over its business school. If the potential debt crosses the 100k threshold though, then McCombs should be the top choice for the OP regardless of fit since its such a good value.

I hate small colleges, so I’m not looking into LACs. It’s not that I would go into debt but my parents would have to work harder and longer for me to go to an elite college as opposed to just going to ut mccombs. Also I’m looking into finance and I’m okay with working in texas.
