I have a question regarding Collegium V and CS^2. Is there any limit on the number of CV honors classes one can take per semester? What about if a student takes CS^2 honors classes, can he still register for a CV honors class? I recall reading somewhere that there was a limitation based on availability.
DS20 has a few core classes (TX government, arts, humanities) that are offered by CV and would prefer to take the honors version both for smaller classes and to get to know more honors students.
There is a limit on the number of CV honors classes you can take per semester but they do not include the CS2 classes. They allow the students to enroll in 1 CV honors class per semester initially and after all honors students have enrolled they will allow you to pick up a second honors class based on availability.
Also, be careful about taking too many honors CS2 classes per semester. My DD ended up taking 3 CS2 classes with one CV honors class one semester and it was too much. Remember the GPA requirements for CS2 is a 3.5 and only include CS classes.
Thank you! Enrolling in one CV class sounds like a reasonable limit. I doubt DS20 would like more than that.
I could see where too many honors classes could become difficult to handle. In DS20 case, it could also be too many non STEM classes. Luckily, UTD core requirements are reasonable, and the AP credit policy is very generous.
Is there any flexibility in the CS^2 schedule the first two years? I was under the impression that the first couple of years are pretty much given as far as CS^2 classes go. After that students are more likely to create their own path. DS will get credit for AP Comp Sci A, and it looks like there are two cs^2 classes/semester the first five semesters. Hopefully, after the first couple of semesters, he will have a good idea what he can handle.
There isn’t a whole lot of fexibility because of prereqs. Don’t take 3 and try to balance out with nonhonors CS classes for the GPA. She was also taking 18 hours/semester. It was just too much.
Is the 3.5 requirement per semester or school year or cumulative?
