UTD vs TAMU-Blinn

Yesterday I found out that I was offered A&M’s ‘TEAM’ Blinn program for Finance. I also applied to UTD’s Actuarial Science Major and was accepted. I’m undecided as to what I should do moving forward and have a couple of questions about the two programs.

On one hand, I believe my heart belongs at a big school with a large scene at A&M. I like the idea of living on a campus, meeting new friends and being a part of the traditional college scene. This is where socially I would be happiest at, and I know that the alumni connections made at A&M can be very resourceful in the future.
I’d like to know if people at Blinn truly feel like they attend A&M, and how hard it is to transfer to A&M after the first two years.

Although UTD doesn’t have a big college feel, it would be significantly cheaper as I could commute like many others that go to the school. I’ve heard that there is a small scene, but even most people that live on campus have told me it’s just meh. Also, if I were to go to UTD, I’m interested in transferring into UT. Could anyone tell me how hard it is to transfer to UT going into an actuarial science major?

As someone that doesn’t come from a high income bracket, would it be okay to go to a school that I would enjoy going to and being able to transfer easily(?) into A&M, even if it means taking a little more debt? Or should I give up my personal preferences in order to stay home and save money?
Sorry for the long post, but thank you to whoever reads this in advance!

Since you’re middle-class, look at cost.
What’s the net price at each option?
(tuition fees room board) -(grants, scholarships) =?
If you go to UTD, live in the dorms your first year in order to fit in better. Don’t treat UTD like a community college, it’s a fine university that’s well-known for math and science.

UTD is a fine university but it does not give you that typical college experience like A&M does. I would also agree that you should not treat UTD as a community college. UTD is a fine university in it’s own right. Do you have any other options to select from.

I do have other options, but they’re not much better. Costs would be around 16500 for UTD and 21000 for TAMU while in Blinn, and 27000 after. I think I’ve come close to choosing a school, thanks for responding.

Congratulations on getting into the actuarial program. You will make great money after graduation.

If you are looking to be financially prudent, UTD is a better choice. Plus, located in Dallas, it’s easy to make job connections as an undergrad leading to permanent employment after graduation. And that’s the goal!

You should be able to intern with actuaries while at school.
