The additional $1000 is only linked to the Volunteer scholarship. There may be additional merit/departmental scholarships, but they are competitive and not guaranteed. I don’t think they will announce those until late Feb or March.

Any action on the so-called second wave of notifications?

We still haven’t heard anything.

We got an email the other day saying that our son is in the running for a departmental scholarship for Engineering. I thought it was strange that it came by email and not snail mail. And since it didn’t provide any specifics, it was hard to get excited about it. Still nothing on Honors college though.

Yeah, got my letter yesterday. No Chancellor’s scholarships for me. Oh well.

What did your letter say?

“the UT General Scholarship Committee recently completed the review of your application… blah blah blah thank you for submitting your application, and I commend you for applying for the best scholarships. Unfortunately, you were not selected for one of our top four-year Chancellor’s Scholarships; however, your application continues to be considered for the numerous, general one-year scholarships… blah blah blah”

Nothing about the Honors college, just scholarship stuff.

We got the same letter, but we weren’t expecting one of the big ones. We’re just hoping for Honors College and a departmental scholarship.

We got it too. Not sure what to expect now. We’ll see what happens I guess.

Is a departmental scholarship (Engineering) a separate application or is it based upon the original application? Thanks!

Our son only filled out the one scholarship application. I believe all institutional, university, and departmental scholarships use that one scholarship application. So if you filled it out, then you will be considered.

D just got the Volunteer scholarship today!

Congrats to you and your daughter, Bulldog! I know it’s been frustrating waiting to hear. If anyone else has received notifications, we’d love to hear.

Son got his letter from the FA office on Friday. He is good with it, but I am fairly offended at the low $$ offer.

Apparently UTK has a glut of instate NMF’s and Presidential Scholar Canidates with solid EC’s. Who could have known?

MemphisGuy, did your son got the volunteer scholarship (3k+1k for honors)?

?? Do you mean he got his whole financial aid offer, or what?

Okay, I’ve heard rumors that some people have gotten honors college notifications. I haven’t talked to anyone directly, but that’s what I’ve heard. (I’m in Knoxville, so ~70% of the student population is going to UT). I WANT TO KNOW.
Morrill is seriously so much fun to live in; my best friends live there this year, so I spend a lot of time there over the weekends. If your sons or daughters get into the honors program, make sure they at least consider it.

@amcm - Not sure about the name but that matches the offer he received.

MemphisGuy- Son got same offer (3k+1k for honors). As far as I know the Hope scholarship is not based on income, so my son will also qualify for the 6k HOPE + 1,500 GAMS supplement to HOPE. When son interviewed for the Haslam Scholarship, he was told that several of the Chancellor Scholarships and departmental scholarships will go to the Haslam finalists. Finalist will be announced Feb 21 and 22.

Mckinna- Was your D interviewed for the Haslam Scholarship?

Lizziedoll456- Since you have some knowledge of campus life, can you tell me which dorms are the party dorms, quiet dorms, etc?

Yes, my D did interview for the Haslam. We also finally got the Volunteer scholarship letter. That, plus the Hope (and extra Hope money for her high ACT score), and the extra for honors, we’re very pleased.

We’re supposed to hear from Haslam February 21 or 22nd. Maybe she’ll make the next cut of interviews.

Right now it’s still between UT and Alabama. She really liked UA, and with all the scholarships there, it makes UT and UA about the same price Of course, if she gets the Haslam, she’ll be going to UT.

We’re just ready to have a decision made at this point!

mckinna- My S is in the exact situation as your D. (Bama or UTKnox). S also applied to other universities, but so far Bama and UTKnox are tops based on scholarship $$$
