Does anyone know when UTK notifies students about scholarships and honors college acceptance?

Based on S experience last year, Volunteer Scholarship notice was in late December. I can’t remember when he received Honors notification, but I think it was early January. Named scholarships notifications occurred about the third week of January. S was offered additional scholarship money from a private scholarship managed by UTK in April.

D has not received notification of Volunteer scholarship yet this year. Their processes may have changed a bit with their VIP portal and the 3 day outage this week. Not sure what to expect…

Thanks! We’re trying to make college decisions, and other schools have sent scholarship letters, but we’re waiting to see what UTK has to offer.

Has anybody been notified about Volunteer or University Scholarship?

Not yet, nor have any of my son’s friends who are also awaiting notification. We are near Nashville, so we usually hear several days after Knoxville area applicants. Has anyone from East TN heard?

Got institutional scholarship letter today. Still waiting on honors college, though.

I got my Volunteer scholarship letter in the mail this weekend. Honors college isn’t going to be released til February, or so I heard. I’m in Knoxville.

We got Volunteer Scholarship letter today.

We had a voice mail today for our daughter saying she was a semi-finalist for the Haslam Scholars. I was beginning to worry that we hadn’t heard anything from UT. We’ve already gotten scholarship notifications from Purdue and Alabama.

Seeing this traffic on scholarship notifications has me wondering if all winners have been notified. D had great test scores and ECs, but chose not to pursue Haslam. Is it safe to assume that if we haven’t heard anything, we’re out of luck?

Congrats McKinna!

Bulldog, the letters that have been sent are institutional scholarships that are pretty much guaranteed if the student is instate and has a certain GPA and ACT score (superscored). For the Volunteer, I know the cut off is a 32. I think the secondary level is a 29 (I think). Here’s the link: [The University of Tennessee: Types of Financial Aid - Institutional Scholarships](<a href=“About Financial Aid - One Stop Student Services”>About Financial Aid - One Stop Student Services)

If your daughter meets those criteria and did not get a letter, I’d call the scholarship office. To my knowledge, the more competitive/departmental scholarship have not been announced . . . except for the semi-finalists for the Haslam, obviously. If anyone has other information, please let us know.

Thanks HP. She did get a 32 so I will contact UT. Thanks.

Son received the Volunteer Scholarship letter a couple of weeks ago. He also got the call for the Haslam semifinalist notification a couple of days ago and today he got the letter to schedule the interview. The Haslam letter also mentioned that he is guaranteed acceptance to the Chancellor’s Honors Program.

HarpethParent- thanks for the link. We did get the call about the Haslam, but we haven’t received anything regarding the Volunteer scholarship. D’s GPA and ACT score definitely qualifies her for that. I need to call Monday about it because if she doesn’t make it to the finals with Haslam, we would need the Volunteer.

I forgot to mention that students would have had to apply by Nov 1, fill out the scholarship portion of the application (a short essay on leadership), and have two teacher recommendations sent. But if your daughter qualifies for Haslam, then I’m almost positive she would qualify for Volunteer.

One of my students who also applied for Haslam didn’t get his Volunteer letter either, and he called, and the office said they had misplaced his address. It’s a large university often with student workers, and things get lost. So if anyone reading thinks he/she qualifies, then by all means, call and follow up.

@HarpethParent- thanks! We did fill out the scholarship app by the deadline. I will call on Monday to check on the Volunteer.

Thanks for the info HP!

Spoke to UT this morning. They said the “first wave” of instituional scholarship notifications have gone out, but there will be more. She couldn’t tell me what the “first wave” constituted; it was just a list received from admissions. I’m going to assume it was alphabetical since our name is toward the end of the alphabet.

I also called and checked. The lady I talked to said there would be a batch of notifications going out this week and another one next week.

The letter for the Volunteer Scholarship mentioned an additional $1000 for Chancellor’s Honor’s participation - Does the Chancellor’s Honor’s award any additional merit scholarship? Thanks!
