i didnt take the AP exam by the way. i just took french for 5 years

(1) email the french dept placement advisor. The email address is on the department's website.

(2) The winter session courses are not normal courses. They're intensive two week interdisciplinary courses, generally in the humanities.

(3) I think the whole point of McIntire's having an ICE is that you'll participate in the ICE, not in some other program at another school. I guess you could take a few at VT, but I'd contact the McIntire admissions people.

Also, depending on your GPA, I'd consider applying to the college of arts & sciences. The commerce school can be difficult to get into as a transfer, and you risk rejection. UVA is a substantially better school than VT and the exit opps here are substantially better than those at VT. Simply put, the people here are smarter, the classes are better and the job recruiting is better. And, given your interest in the commerce school, I'm assuming that you're fairly concerned about on grounds recruiting. Just something to consider.

i have a 3.8 , iwas accepted to uva engineering school last year also, but decided to do business instead. I didnt go last year, because I really want to be in business, or i could have switched from engineering to arts/ science itself. Should I email dean Greg roberts about the ICE question. I dont know any UVA people in 3rd / 4th year. Do you have anything to share that you learnt from them about the nature of the courses and professors especially. I was going to do the Information Technology there. thanks so much for ur help

I'm currently enrolled in ICE. To answer some questions:

The comm school is diverse. I would say less than 50% of the kids in my class are white. There are tons of international students - especially from Korea and China.

There aren't very many preppy jocks in the comm school.

The 3rd year is hard. This is going to be the first weekend in which I do something besides study - though this isn't the case for everyone. Grade-wise, the grades are highly condensed. Getting a solid A is extremely impressive in an ICE class. Getting a C means you aren't pulling your weight. Most people get a B, a B+ or an A-.

The curriculum is relevant and timely. Stronger than a lot of MBA programs.

"nobody makes 100 grand a year out of the comm school."

Jags, I personally know a girl who graduated last year who works for JPMorgan now, she has a 65 grand base salary and a 70 grand bonus for HER FIRST YEAR as an analyst. it's SICK. somehow, she;s just a reallllly brilliant girl, and JPMorgan probably treats her like a "star". While i was interning at a trading firm in NYC this past summer, I visited her apartment overlooking hudson river, two blocks west of Time Square, the rent is 4000/mo. It was amazing. She flies her boyrfriend to visit her in NYC every other weekend.

There're lots of other people who make 100 grand a year (including bonus) out of comm school. Basically the Bulge Bracket and boutique ibanking jobs in NYC would pay you 65 grand for base and around 35 grand for bonus, at least.

Obviously not everyone makes that much, but you do have the potential.
