UVA Defer- Will my mid year report kill me?

I am taking 9 classes this semester, with 3 AP’s and 1 IB class. I will be getting a B+ in AP English and a B in IB Math. Will this absolutely kill my chances? I have all A’s otherwise.

Not at all! Generally, colleges just want to see that you’re not slacking off (think going from straight A’s to C’s) and are still taking a rigorous courseload consistent with that of your previous years. Even if you haven’t gotten many B’s before, they shouldn’t hurt your chances.

Thank you so much, that makes me feel so much better.

I have (IMO) a really solid application, but I got an F in IB HL II Math seventh semester. I also have an extenuating circumstance that I didn’t include on my original application, because to be completely honest, I didn’t think I would need to. Good grades otherwise, I applied to General school of arts and sciences. Should I not get my hopes up? (I’m full IB too, very competitive hs, insane EC, good test scores, etc. only problem is my gpa) Also, please forgive my lack of detail, I am in a hurry when I’m writing this haha

For anyone applying next year as early action: Remember to not slack off after your application is submitted. Many early action applications are deferred, and that midyear report could make the difference.

@charliesch You are right. However, I would never consider a B+ in a very difficult course slacking off. Especially on a midyear report, which only represents the first semester.
