We had lots of great kids deferred in our kids’ high school as well. Our sophomore is learning a lot from our senior’s process. Would you mind sharing some of these OOS schools?
My local southern VA high schools were genuinely surprised by the EA outcomes. My friend that is a freshman at UVA, who went to one of these high schools last year, was shocked. I know of seven EA applicants between my public high school and the neighboring private school. 4 were rejected, 3 were deferred. I was one of the deferred, and honestly very saddened knowing that the rejected applicants had UVA pinned as their dream school…I have never done the “dream school” fantasy, especially knowing this year is so altered in terms of admission. If you’re IS and down about being deferred/rejected don’t take it personally, an admissions team doesn’t know you, and this year more OOS were admitted EA.
My son also got denied to UVA OOS during ED. He also got into OSU but is doing Scholars not honors because he liked the program. We are going up there to visit this weekend. He has loved that school since the day he was born
was deferred from EA to arts and sciences on friday (3.8UW, 4.61W, 34ACT). anyone know the chances of deferred students being accepted regular decision? thanks and congrats to everyone accepted!
My son is accepted OOS and has not received anything yet. Crossing our fingers for some $$, but we were reading some discouraging posts on another thread about OOS not getting much help.
We are in-state, but ours is asking for some tax forms.
I think that’s a yield protect. Have the counselor call if you have a genuine desire to attend. If so, I think it will work out…
UVA is full need…
Typically 10 percent of deferred get in but more from in state than OOS.
Did you review your financial aid package or did you receive an email requesting more info?
My son did have an “x” and he uploaded his grades. A day later it changed to the check.
I’m new to full need.
Does that mean they base financial aid off of your CSS/FASFA? Do they make adjustments year to year.
UVA will use CSS Profile information to determine a family’s need according to UVA’s proprietary formula. FAFSA is used only to determine eligibility for Federal FA programs (Pell grant, work study, Direct Student Loan). https://financialaid.virginia.edu/
Run the net price calculator to get a cost estimate: Net Price Calculator
Note the NPC may not be accurate if the parents are divorced, own a business and/or real estate beyond a primary home.
It was in the To Do section of SIS. I’m not sure if it was missed in another part of the FAFSA or if they just discovered they needed it. I can’t remember if UVA required a CSS profile or if they just needed the FAFSA. We had already supplied those forms, I just can’t remember where we did it.
ok thanks!
Received my aid package (OOS, Echols Scholar) - UVA calculated my EFC at 20k more than the Net Price Calculator said.
Needless to say, won’t be going there.
It could be worth having a conversation with them to ask about that sizable difference…they should go line by line with you. There’s no harm in doing that if you might attend if the net cost ended up being similar to the NPC. Did you take a screenshot of your NPC results? Are your parents divorced, or do they own a business and/or real estate beyond a second home?
That’s the plan.
My parents have sizable savings (nearing retirement age) and a paid-off house, and my mother is a self-employed consultant. UVA has me at full-pay.
Good luck!
Yes, the FAFSA will count all of those assets when determining that your parents can afford to send you.
