@MayBIvyMomma There are a lot of parallels in our Ds experiences. It will be fun to follow together and see where they each end up (or both, if together!).
@WinnerWannabe @mills6 @nymom9990 In her blog, Dean J notes scholar invitations are supposed to go out a week after the EA decisions were released. EA decisions were released a week ago but given how long the admit mail is taking to arrive, it may be days before students actually receive their scholar notifications. On the other hand, there won’t be as many being mailed so maybe they will be sent a faster method than the bulk service I assume is used for the admit packages.
Echols scholar is a separate letter as I remember. Hold tight everyone! They are coming. and @mayblvymomma to my knowledge there will not be any full court press from UVA. They don’t operate that way. They are a great school and if a student wants to go there, great. They do not woo, so to speak. Similar to the Ivy league. Trust me, been there done that!
Received my packet today in NOVA
Did anybody have writing on their acceptance letter? Like a note from an admissions officer?
S finally got his packet yesterday in NOVA. S accepted into engineering and had a personal handwritten note from the dean saying that S will be a terrific engineer which Imthought was very nice.
If you want “bling”you have to apply to CNU. Otherwise, the acceptance letter is all you get. Given the vast number of people they have to admit to get the yield, I guess as a taxpayer I should be please that money isn’t spent on promotional stuff. I’m looking forward to DOTL.

(and little late to the posts but…) D accepted EA OOS (we are over the moon!) 33 ACT; Ranked 11/351; IB program with 2 AP classes and 3 AP tests all 4s; President of Service Club and Environmental Club, Captain of Swim Team-6 yr Varsity Letter; tons of volunteer exp; excellent LoR … She is beyond excited and even though she is still waiting on 3 RD decisions UVA and another Va college are her TOP choices; aunt lives in VA and we vacay there 2x a year-Love it! Still waiting on final mailed pkg (waiting is killing ME, she has too much school work to really worry about it!)
@VAMom23 - Thank you! Just remembering all the mail we received from Universities like Vanderbilt, Chicago, ND, Alabama, etc over the past year makes me sick, when I think of how slashing their advertising budget could mean more students getting a grant, or lower tuition overall! As for all the “courting”, sure, it’s flattering, but we’re making it a point to impress on our kids that it is just another form of advertising- once they go wherever they go, they’ll have to do all their lifting. They’re better off looking at other Majors, in case the one they wanted does not pan out, or they change their mind, other opportunities, etc.
Has anyone heard from echols? any news on that date?
@prodesse, last year my older son received car decals, some sort of 3D Viewer, a lanyard, handwritten personalized notes, calls etc. It was the only VA school that sent anything.
@Essel, I agree. The relentless marketing is also questionable because most kids probably don’t stand a chance in getting admitted at the schools who are sending them, despite having the base line stats. As a taxpayer, I’m grateful VA doesn’t waste money. I would like to plan for DOTL though.
@Sciencegirlfromthewest Dean J’s blog said that Echols would go out by mail this week, but not to expect anything because the numbers are very small. She also said that you can self nominate after you start at UVA.
I submitted all documents on the portal on January 1st and submitted my FAFSA and CSS even before that but still didn’t receive a financial aid award. Has everyone else received it yet or should I email sfs
