Wow those statistics totally didn’t make me more nervous or anything…
With this article being posted, and admissions already reading RD applications, it’s hard not to think that the EA decisions have been made and will be released this Friday!!!
Just out of curiousity, how do you know that they have begun RD reading?
The article linked about says that Dean Roberts and his staff are reviewing more than 31,000 apps for Class of 2019 so I’m assuming reviewing means reading
what time have the results been out in the past?
At night, I think around 6-7, but I could be wrong
An article about low income students isn’t going to go into detail about the mechanics of reading. I keep tweeting/commenting that we release as soon as we are done. I’m not lying. I read Early Action applications all day today.
Thanks for the update, Dean J!
Logged into SIS today. Says that they will be released on Jan 31. I would think that even if they finish earlier than that, they would wait and release them on the day posted.
@clowrance1, we don’t wait to release. You WILL see your decision on January 31st, but we are hoping to post them sooner than that.
In the 10 years I’ve been at UVa, we have always been able to finalize decisions a little early.
We’re getting repetitive on this thread. For the sake of Dean J, please read through previous posts before you ask questions or make comments.
We have established multiple times that decisions will most likely be posted before January 31st (as per tradition). They typically get released on Fridays, so we have reason to believe that this Friday, next Friday the 23rd or Friday the 30th are all viable options. Dean J will post on all social media the day that decisions will be released, meaning that we will only know the day of that decisions will be posted (and not any time before that). UVA has a small staff for a large number of applicants, so this is why the process takes so long. However, the second they are done, Dean J and the folks at admissions will start getting ready to release decisions to us. Since everything is online now, they can post decisions the same day that they finish reviewing applications. Official statistics for early application will come out the same day as our decisions, so that is the only day that we will know the number of completed applications (as of now, only the early number, as in those who submitted apps, whether completed or not, is what is referenced).
@"Dean J" I have a question on the dog in your picture. Is he or she twin? I saw two same dogs in one picture from your admission blog and wondring if they are twins
This might have already been answered but I know dean J posts on the UVA blog and social media that decisions will be released later on that evening (whenever decision day is) but do we also get an email telling us to check our status? I know that’s what northeastern and UNC does so I was just wondering. Sorry if this has already been addressed.
Hoping to hear this Friday! Good luck to everyone!
Hey guys… Does anyone have any anecdotal evidence on what the typical SAT and ACT scores for out of staters are? I know UVA doesn’t release out of state specific data concerning this, but I’m very curious (and nervous)
Actually, UVA does release this data. I am on my phone so it’s hard to link, but you can just google “Dean J Blog” and go through the past blog posts to find admission statistics. Dean J posted early action statistics for the class of 2018 in January of last year.
^^
this is self-reported data, but it suggests for those who provided it the OOS averages for admitted students were SAT 2131 and ACT 32.

this is historic admission data by residency and year, without GPA or test scores. as you can see, the competition is much more intense for OOS applicants: http://avillage.web.virginia.edu/iaas/instreports/studat/hist/admission/first_by_residency.htm
this is historic admission data by college and year, without GPA or test scores. don’t assume information that is not given. for example, don’t assume it is easier to get in to engineering than A&S, just because a higher percentage of engineering applicants are admitted; the engineering applicants may have higher grades and test scores than the typical A&S applicant, for example.

this is the data from DeanJ’s blog for the current first year class, but does not break down the test scores or the grades by residency.

this is the data from her blog for the EA applications of the current first year class. again, she does not break down the test scores or the grades by residency.

@JK0919, CavDog was from a litter of 12 puppies. I have posted pictures of “family reunions” before, but the dog in the recent picture about duplicates is not his relative.
@ineversleep, we also send an email alerting applicants to decisions being ready in SIS.
Anyone get the email yet?
I’m faster than the system that sends emails. You’d hear from me first.
