I think your record the past year is impressive. Act score on the lower end but I think your 4.0 should will make up for it. Any EC or job? Don’t agonize you will know soon enough. Good Luck
I agree with Collegehelp4us! What are you guys thinking as far as housing (provided we all get in lol). Are you going to try to room with others transfers on/off campus, or try to immerse yourself with students who have been on grounds for the past year or two?
I’d rather be with new transfer students. It wouldn’t make me feel left out as with a students who already know the place.
My ideal situation is to live with at least one transfer and one student who has been there the past two years. That way we have someone who has it all down, but we have each other too for moral support.
I am not a transfer student but I wanted to give a housing option. My son is in the marching band and there are some houses near the stadium that are filled with Band members. One in particular needs two people to rent with them. If they don’t get two tenants the landlord may put non students in there to fill the house so when the decisions come out if you are looking for places I can get their contact information for you if they haven’t found anyone. So two transfer students could rent and be with students who have already been at the school. They are male but are fine if two females want to rent, they just would like to meet who they will be living with and made sure they can get along instead of getting whoever the landlord puts in there. The house is about 5 houses away from the stadium so a great location and the marching band kids are a great group of kids. Just an option to think about. Good luck.
Hey guys, do you know what initated means on the to do list?
So I talked to the school today and they say that they need to keep 2/3 Virginians. So the acceptance rate for oos entirely depends on the number of applicants instate vs out of state.
Take a look at the link Dean j shared as it answers all questions about how many students are admitted and the acceptance rates. It’s been pretty consistent I’d say for the past 5 or so years.
@indarmy what link? Can’t find it
On page 24 of this forum and Dean J provides 3 links. Click on the second link and follow her instructions on how to load the transfer analytics
So according to what I found, only 98 out of 630 transfers were from out-of-state. Unfortunately, I don’t know out of how many applicants that is. For example, if six times more in-state students applied than out-of-state students, then the acceptance rate would be about same. On the other hand, if the the same amount of applicants applied, then out-of-state would be six times harder.
To my surprise more than 50% of McIntire’s class is from out-of-state, although this would include international students as well.
26 students were accepted as transfer students last year. 7 out of 26 were out-of-state. I believe we can count on an offer rate of about 15%, although once we deduct all the students who didn’t finish their prerequisites, we should be at about 25-35%. This again doesn’t account for in-state/out-of-state.
My best guess is that an out-of-state student, who has completed all the prerequisites and an SAT score above the average and a GPA of around 3.8, has a 20-25% chance of acceptance on average. So a student with a 4.0 has a slightly higher chance, while a lower GPA might only have a 5% chance (statistically.)
Edit: Please do not hold these number to a high standard. It’s just my estimate from the given information.
With all due respect, please don’t just throw out numbers like 5 percent with no statistical basis. It’s very easy to mislead people. At this point I’d forgo speculation and just wait for decisions to come out.
I see that you’re OOS. If you’re applying to CAS, about 25% are accepted from OOS. Mcintire is much much lower. If you’re applying to CAS, you’ll probably get in because historically 4.0s almost always get in considering you’ve sent a mid term report and are taking the necessary classes that will transfer. For Mcintire, I have no idea but I also don’t think it’s accurate for you to guesstimate statistics.
So I see that there are a couple hundred more applicants OOS than in state overall from last year. Statistically, in state students have almost 3x the chances of being accepted in CAS. Just goes to show that in state students are favored a lot more. Historically, I’ve seen 3.8+ OOS applicants get in at the same time. We’ll just have to wait and see. 11 more days
Guesstimating statistics is basically what every chance me post is asking. Nobody asked for it in this case, but if someone other than me had posted what I have, then I’d be happy to read it. I see no harm in this. Also, it is only directed to others on here applying to business.
Is anyone else on here at a VCCS applying through GAA?
It seems most people are not and if you are, you’re guaranteed acceptance anyways.
@Vincent1997 Was just giving his opinion based on the statistics he saw. Not saying it’s right or wrong, but it’s his opinion. If you don’t like what he commentated then just move on, instead of being an instigator. @TerrierNation
I’m not instigating anything, I’m just saying it’s a little misleading to throw out arbitrary numbers which could easily mislead people reading them. I’m trying to prevent anyone from not applying because they think they can’t get in based on some CC post. If he’s expressing his opinion then so am I, and we’re both entitled to do that.
I have a 3.3 GPA currently from a top 50 school but I have a business projected to make 6 figures this year in sales. I have applied to the business school. I wonder if I will be accepted
Unfortunately, I did not mention that my projected and current sales in my college application which I am starting to really regret
