UVA or UMich- Out of State

Whats harder to get into out-of-state. I guess which school looks more upon state residency. In addition, how do you compare the two schools?

UVa is flat out harder to get into out of state. It's not so much about state residency as it is class size. UVa enrolls a much smaller class than UMich, so there are less out of state spots, which means that UVa's out of state spots will be more selective.

I don't have any direct experience with either school, so I wouldn't be a good source on how to compare the two.

UVa and Umich have great programs in the humanities (UVa's history and Umich's political science are top-notch), but Umich is much better in natural and applied sciences. UVa is less liberal than Umich and has a more southern atmosphere. UVa values state residency more than Umich because Umich has a huge undergraduate enrollment.
