"Thank you for completing your application to the University of Virginia. We
are so excited that we are one of your schools of choice. This time is one of
anticipation and anxiousness as you wait to hear where your second home will
be for the next four years, and I want to take the opportunity to assist you
in the weeks ahead as you make final preparations for college.

The University has become a national leader in retaining and graduating Hispanic/Latino
students who are satisfied with their university experience and academic excellence.
To learn more about this experience, we have matched you to a current Hispanic/Latino
student who can answer your questions about academics, student life at U.Va,
or just talk to you while you wait. This student can share valuable information
that may help when it comes time for your college decision."

I was wondering do all Hispanic applicants receive this letter or is it an indicator of a likely chance of acceptance? I know it's not a likely letter, but I want to know if it is the generic Latio letter.
Thanks

I'm not Hispanic, but I do remember similar letters going out to a select few the year I applied. I'm a third year student now, so my recall is a little fuzzy.
But, what I remember is that those people, under represented minorities, who got those letters were the ones who got accepted!
IMHO, this a fantastic sign for you!! I don't want to jinx you so I'll say in a real hushed tone................congratulations!!
Search previous years and I think that you'll see that this is akin to the standard likely letters, but is for those URM's who have turned heads at UVA.

Oh yes, I'm sure, have you searched it yet? I know that the language changed from the 2006 year to the 2007 year. In 2006 it was much more obviously a likely letter variant. In 2007, it became very similar to the message you posted, but in the years I mention, they were snail mail paper letters.
I was desperately hoping that I'd get a likely letter (never did), so I followed these threads closely. I also followed the ECHOLS threads closely, and never got that either!
But, hey, I'm here and happy.
This is a very good sign for you in my opinion. I'll try to find you a meaningful thread and will post it when I do find it.

Certainly, your reservation is correct, and it would be nice to hear from Dean J. I don't want to stir up a frenzy of high hopes, particularly since I'm just a student and not part of the admissions process.
Hope I'm right for your sakes. I still think this is VERY positive news!

FWIW, snail mail is so expensive these days, so I think there is a real trend to send mail electronically for $ sake and for green sake. Stay optimistic, good luck.

i got it on the 2nd of march and with a few hours left till admission results are out, im absolutely dying to know what this could possibly mean

I got the same thing that pachalon got on the 2nd (I’m African American). I don’t know what it means, but know I’m like 20 times more nervous!!!

BAP91 and EmekChris, I think it is a likely letter too. They wouldn’t have taken the
trouble to send you that letter just b/c you are both minorities if they didn’t want you in.
Congrats! Hopefully, I will see you all there. I live in Louisiana. Good luck! :-)
