UW Autumn 2018 Transfer Discussion (University of Washington)

Although I was invited to join Phi Theta Kappa, I never registered because of the $75 joining fee. It felt a little wierd to have to pay $75 just to be able to say that I was a member of the honor society? I get that it looks better on applications, but shouldn’t you just already have that distinction if you make the right grades?

@octoberblues No, but I emailed the financial aid office and they said they start sending out packages during the summer time, like June/July ish.

Yeah, I didn’t think actually joining would be any better. Since I’ve received an honor award, especially twice, that should mean something on my application

If you want to join, you should get in touch with the person who runs the honors department at your school. I received an email invite from PTK to join, which included a registration code. PTK will need to review your transcripts before sending you an invitation as they have a 3.5 minimum GPA requirement. For me, this was done by the head of the honors department at my school. The membership fee is pretty hefty, $120 one time fee. It is worth it though, in my opinion.

@golddawgs

Do you have to join an honor society to graduate with honors? Like getting the honor cords? I’m not sure if Washington CC do that, so any info on that would be nice!

As long as you are in the honors program ( i.e. Taking at least the minimum amount of honors courses to be considered an “honors student”) you should graduate with honors. Organizations like Phi Theta Kappa have been their own cords, etc with the PTK letters on them. Hope that helps.
@julietjuju3

@UWtransfer2018 I haven’t taken any honors classes, but my GPA is honors level? does that matter? Like what I’m asking is will I still get recognized for my final gpa even if I didn’t take honors classes or join the honors program?

In my experience “honors status” is dependent upon how many credits of honors classes you have taken. I believe the requirement at my school was at least 15 units of honors classes ( five 3- unit courses). You had to have a certain GPA in order to enroll in honors courses but if you did not take honors courses and had a high GPA, you were not considered an honors student. I attended orange coast college in Costa Mesa, CA before going to Seattle Central College. Hope that helps. I would check with a counselor at your school to see what the specific honors requirements are for your school.
@julietjuju3

PTK is a complete waste of money. If you’re going to pay money to join an honor society, join one that is associated with the department that you’re in at a 4 year university, not one that revolves around community colleges.

Thank you! I actually found some information about graduating with honors at my CC, and it says being apart of the paid program isn’t required. You just need a cumulative GPA above a 3.5 @UWtransfer2018

Awesome! Congrats!
@julietjuju3

As it gets closer to the end of April, I find myself checking MyUW way more often than I did. Even though it’s not good for my sanity, I’m too excited and don’t want to miss if my unofficial transcript loads.
If none of us find out before May 1st, and we put our deposits down for our backup school, and we later find out that we got into UW, how would we decline the offer that we originally accepted? Do we just email admissions?

@julietjuju3 I think you would get portal login details for whatever school you submitted the deposit to. It should have an option of declining their admission/seat. Last time I had to do it the university had an online process. It was almost the same process as accepting the admission minus submitting the deposit.

May is almost here. Just a couple more days

@UWadmissionstaff is there an antipacted date Autumn 2018 Transfer notifications will begin?

@julietjuju3 SAME!! I went from 5+ a day, to 0-2 a day, now back to 5+. I wish they had an early action thing like other schools. I feel like that would make th admissions process easier and people can begin to plan moves and just transferring in general.

Hey guys,
I just received the “missing information” email requesting a transcript from the college I attended for Running Start in high school. Looks like our applications are in the reviewing process!
Additionally, a friend of mine was accepted to UWT today. He literally applied less than a week ago, way passed the priority application deadline, and got accepted. Good luck to all UW campus applicants, notification is coming soon!

@UWadmissionstaff Is there an anticipated* date Autumn 2018 Transfer notifications will begin?

@UWtransfer2018 On my Transfer Thursday guide it says notification period is between May-July, but students last year on April 26th/27th started receiving notifications, so that’s why a lot of us are anxious to know if notifications will start rolling out again in April this year like they did the last.
