UW CSE Direct Admission Email?

I just got this email and was wondering if it's just informational or suggesting that I was chosen for direct admission (I'm so anxious to find out!):

Congratulations on your admission to the University of Washington!

We’re emailing because you were recently admitted to the UW, and because you indicated an interest in Computer Science & Engineering program – fantastic! We would love to speak with you more about our department and our students.

To get started, here are a few key facts about UW CSE:
We’re one of the top programs in the country. College rankings don’t tell the whole story, but they do indicate a few things: innovative research, top-quality faculty, award-winning students, and great facilities. At UW, all of these resources are available to CSE undergraduates.
We’re good friends with great companies. If you want a job after college, or an internship while in school, CSE will hook you up. UW CSE majors have access to career fairs, tech talks, resume workshops and more.
Instructor quality. The UW is a big school, with a lot of big classes and a lot of small classes. As a UW CSE major, your class size can range from ten students to hundreds. Don’t assume that big lectures will be boring or impersonal, though – Introductory Programming is taught by award-winning instructors with the highest possible teaching ratings. And the small classes let you work one-on-one with our excellent faculty.
Undergrad research. Computer science research solves real-life problems, and anyone can get involved. Want to help kids learn math? Or create a great animated film? Or improve healthcare in rural Africa? CSE research does all of these, and you can help.

I’m not sure. I have not received such an email and noted Comp Sci. as my major of interest. Maybe it’s a likely letter? From the wording of the letter, it’s hard to tell.

You know what? I honestly don’t know, myself. If I had to guess…it looks like they’re trying to feel out your level of interest and are pretty much ready to offer you admission if you express even the slightest bit of excitement.

Reply back to them somewhat enthusiastically and see what happens.

Also if you or anyone else has questions about UW CSE, feel free to PM me or speedsolver (or just ask them here if other people might benefit).

It’s not clear cut what the advisers want, but definitely email them back and as sumzup said, show your enthusiasm. Please let us know what they say! :)

If you have any specific questions about the department, please message sumzup or me. We’re open to any questions or concerns you may have. :)

Hmm… This email must be something! I am not sure either.

I am also hoping for CSE direct admission. I got accepted to the UW on March 14th by the way. I still haven’t received this email yet… I actually don’t know what that means.

I got an email similar to this in December:
"We are thrilled that you applied to the University of Washington and selected Computer Science or Computer Engineering as your intended major on your application. While choosing a major of interest has no bearing on freshmen admissions decisions, and you are always welcome to change your indicated area of study, supplying this information allows you to connect early with the programs that interest you. To help you get started, we would like to tell you a little bit about our department and provide resources for you to explore our majors further.

UW CSE offers an unbeatable combination: outstanding students, creative coursework, exciting career opportunities, and a world-class faculty committed to providing a very special undergraduate experience in which research and education are seamlessly intertwined. Our students build robots, design technology for people with disabilities, bring technology and education to developing countries, create animated films, and invent computer models of how the human brain learns and processes information. Take a look at our videos for a glimpse of students and graduates working in the field: [Why CSE? | Computer Science & Engineering](http://www.cs.washington.edu/WhyCSE).

To learn more about UW CSE, check out our department website for detailed information on the department and our admissions process: [Undergraduate Program](http://www.cs.washington.edu/education/ugrad/). As outlined on these pages, there are multiple ways to enter the department, and CSE advisors are available to help you prepare for the major. Attending an information session is a great way to hear more about our program and talk directly with an advisor. Also, feel free to email us at ugrad-advisor@cs.washington.edu with any questions you have after reviewing our departmental information.

Best of luck with your application to the University of Washington!

Warm regards,
The CSE Advising Team"

I don’t think it’s the direct admission email because I emailed them and asked when will they send their decisions and they said:
"You should know by the end of the first week of April.

Best,
Elise"

Also, I haven’t seen any posts of anyone being admitted yet.

Thanks so much, everyone! I just replied to it, so I’ll let you all know what they say.
@dwcs06 Now that you mention it, I received that email in December as well. I didn’t think of responding to it though… I guess I assumed it went out to everyone! Thanks for letting me know what they said about their decisions! :)

False alarm, guys. I got this email back in early November. I don’t think it means anything in that case. I still hope that we hear back soon!

*I meant a similar email, not that exact one. Obviously, I just got admitted in March, not November :D

dang…i didn’t get this…i really hope this isn’t the CSE direct admit letter…otherwise I’m not going to the uw.

its not, that email was definitely sent before any decisions were even made.

"Congratulations on your admission to the University of Washington!

We’re emailing because you were recently admitted to the UW, and because you indicated an interest in Computer Science & Engineering program – fantastic! "
don’t think so…im not talking about caliskimmer’s

That’s weird…I got my Foster email today so I was assuming CSE would be out soon. I’m sure it will be here soon guys!

CSE will be out soon.

I dug up my direct admit acceptance email; I’d assume that it is still in a similar format. I take back what I said earlier. It shouldn’t be a vague email at all.

In the first ellipsis, 5ish large paragraphs about the department and what it would mean being in the department. The second one just had a closing statement with contact information.

Subject: UW CSE Direct Admission
**Body: ** “My name is
and I’m an advisor for the undergraduate program at UW Computer Science & Engineering.
I’m pleased to write to offer you a spot in our program this autumn as a DA student. Congratulations! What this means is that you will be able to enter UW as a CSE major

With all of this in mind, I hope you will choose to accept our offer of admission. If so, please notify me by email and fill out this acceptance survey:
…”

Wow, you were admitted as a freshman? Nice. Do you mind sharing your stats when you applied to UW as a freshman?

Yeah, I’m really grateful to have gotten in as a freshman.

Graduating UW GPA: 3.92 (8AP/7Honors) I’m not sure what GPA I had when I applied to UW … these are 2 more semesters’ grades on that GPA.
ACT: 33
SAT: 2100
Went to a high school in the area. I would say my ECs were well rounded and essays well written. I spent a lot of time on those and were happy how they turned out.

Boy, seeing the scores I’ve seen, I really need to step up my game in college. I never actually got to use my true potential in high school due to my naturally lazy and negative attitude.

I have a 3.66ish UW gpa, 1950 SAT, and a 29 ACT. I hope someone gets an urge to accept me because they had some sort of vision that this random kid may be more than what they are seeing. :D

@speedsolver: around which date did you get that DA offer email? I had also applied to the Computer Science program . . . btw was there a separate application for applying for DA or something . . .it’s been so long that i don’t remember now.

newlearner: early April. There was no extra application. All you had to do was put CS or CE as your intended major.
