UW Madison Early Action for Fall 2022 Admission

Wondering if anyone knows how if deferred decisions are rolling on released online same day as general admissions?

4335 are those who accepted to be on waitlist.
UW offered 8128 waitlists at last admission cycle

An OOS friend’s D was accepted to the economics program. They’re deciding between UW, UMd, and waiting for decisions from Ohio State, Rice, U of Wash.

How’s UW’s economics program compared to that of the others on this list? I’ve looked at various college ranking lists, but not sure I’d give much credence to them.

Wow, of the 54K who applied, 32.K were offered admission & only 8.5K enrolled. That’s a very high acceptance rate. Am I reading something wrong?

No, you are reading it correctly. In state vs out of state. Different rate by major, THE crazy covid year, and Madison (like plenty of top schools) likely has self-selection bias.

I believe I saw March 1 but gave up caring once I saw this: “…scholarship awards for non-resident incoming freshmen are extremely limited (less than 5 available)” Incoming Freshmen FAQ – L&S Scholarships – UW–Madison

50% to 60% about right for State Univ. Most are top students, avg UWGPA 3.82
Not only “The” UW, but also U of Washington Seattle have similar acceptance rate.

Top econ program.

Merit money is very limited period IS or OOS. Unfortunately it matters a whole lot more for finances OOS.

At least I already know the size of the check I will write should my daughter accept her admit offer from Wisco
Only 1 of her top 5 would be less; this is not a deal breaker

Wondering the same thing.

what’s the difference between the Letters and Sciences & Agricultural and Life Sciences colleges? I applied CALS but am seeing a lot more LS applicants… did I pick the wrong one?

Here are the majors at CALS (hope it’s what you wanted): Areas of Study – Agricultural & Life Sciences

If it makes you feel better my kiddo got in on Friday and did not tell us until last night

I recently was deferred and planning to send a LOCI. 1. Would this be a beneficial idea for my application and 2. Would I copy it into the comment box below the self report section for my mid year grades or send it to another place such as the admissions office.

Yes my daughter and one of her classmates. I think it is very encouraging for you all, congrats!!!

L&S requires different breathe courses, like Foreign Languages, Literature/Humanities, Social Sciences etc, which I don’t think CALS has same requirement.
Univ requires
“General Education
Breadth—Humanities/Literature/Arts: 6 credits
Breadth—Natural Science: 4 to 6 credits, consisting of one 4- or 5-credit course with a laboratory component; or two courses providing a total of 6 credits
Breadth—Social Studies: 3 credits
Communication Part A & Part B *
Ethnic Studies *
Quantitative Reasoning Part A & Part B *”

"College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Requirements

In addition to the University General Education Requirements, all undergraduate students in CALS must satisfy a set of college and major requirements. Courses may not double count within university requirements (General Education and Breadth) or within college requirements (First-Year Seminar, International Studies, Science, and Capstone), but courses counted toward university requirements may also be used to satisfy a college and/or a major requirement; similarly, courses counted toward college requirements may also be used to satisfy a university and/or a major requirement."

Each college has a minimum of credits within college and max of credit from outside college. Overlap departments like Biochemistry , Biology credit can be counted in either college credits.
Hope it helps.

Your post holds true for this year as well insofar as early action and private schools go (at least at ours.) As my kiddo said - “We got savaged.” She’s in to CALS but I think she might literally be the only prep school kid in the Twin Cities who wants to be on a farm

I am not really familiar with UMd but all the others are good schools. I think it’s really a matter of fit and cost.
