I’m trying to decide which school to go to and I am having the hardest time ever. Which school would be better for a student that will be pursing dentistry? How are the pre-dental programs at both schools? What are the pros and cons? Which school would better prepare me for dental school? I’ve heard that the pre-dental program at UW is pretty bad and offers little to no advising. If you go there and are on the pre-dental track, is this true? I went on an SPU tour the other day and the pre-health program at SPU sounds amazing and almost guarantees an admission to a graduate school upon completion. Is this also true? The only thing stopping me from committing to SPU is that UW is the more prestigious school out of the two and was definitely harder to get into so I would feel kind of like I am giving up a great opportunity. Also, the school has so much diversity which is awesome. What’s deterring me away from UW is the supposedly hard competition and higher percentage of failure. I am for sure not the smartest kid around but I am determined and can’t think of anything else I’d want to do with my life than help people with the power of medicine. Any advice would be super appreciated. Please also share your experiences at either of the schools! (University of Washington vs. Seattle Pacific University)

Where else have you applied?
Have you been admitted to both?
What’s your net cost at each?

Graduated from UW and in dental school now, definitely go to UW! Sure UW is tough and competitive, but you have access to more resources/activities that can help you get into dental school: volunteering opportunities at the UW School of Dent for undergrads, dental research labs if you’re interested in doing dental research, bunch of RSOs and pre-health clubs you can join, undergrad classes geared toward health prof schools, pre-health volunteering/shadowing trips. Getting involved in these kinds of activities will help solidify your dental app and make you competitive.
The only downside I can think of at UW besides the competition is the large class sizes in the “weed out” courses, this made it difficult for me to get to know my professors well. But if you make an effort it’s doable.
Keep in mind this is a pretty biased answer and I’ve never studied at SPU, but I believe if you’re smart and talented enough to get into UW you can get into dental school no problem. Feel free to PM if you got any more questions
