UW vs UCSC

Hey, so I’m a California resident but since due to a technicality I’ll be paying nonresident tuition this year. I’m in the premajor for computer science at both schools, and I was wondering whether going to UW and trying to get into CSE merits the high stress + the work required to get instate residency (30 hr of employment per week). I’ll be getting instate tuition next year anyways at UCSC, but UW is just so much more prestigious.

My S chose UW over several UC’s, including UCSC, and is now paying out of state tuition. He had a couple of summer interships in Seattle and is admitted as a junior in the Foster School of Business (around a 3.6 to 3.7 UWash GPA to get in). I heard the CS and the Computer/Electrical Engineering departments are very competitive and need around a 3.7 to 3.8 GPA to get in. Do whatever is financially feasible or make sense for you.

Thank you for the advice!
