UW Winter 2015 transfer thread

@socalsea‌ Nope! May I ask what the email is about? I didn’t receive it the last time I applied either.

@socalsea‌ I may be completely off, but I think it has to do with your ethnicity. I looked online and the purpose of the Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity is to support historically underprivileged pre-college students (Hispanic, AA, Southeast Asian) through their journey to UW.

Here is the link:<a href=“What We Do - Multicultural Outreach & Recruitment”>Home - Multicultural Outreach & Recruitment;

@UWchancemeh‌ do you think that could mean anything? I applied last term and was rejected, but received this email this time around. Thanks for the link!

@UWchancemeh is said: Congrats on your application to the University of Washington! I wanted to follow up with you regarding any tribal documentation you may have. It can be either your enrollment card, a parents, or grandparents information.
Are you a minority as well?

@socalsea‌
Hmm, not sure, good question. It could but I couldn’t really tell you!
No, I’m Korean American so I fall under the “majority” category.
It’s interesting if you look at the site because it says “pre-college” which I’m assuming is high school. Plus if you look at the link up top where its says (Apply to UW) it only provides options that aid Freshman applicants. Maybe the e-mail was sent by mistake, but never know. You should call! :)

@UWchancemeh‌ I am also asian, but am Native Hawaiian and Native American too. I was reading online and honestly don’t think your ethnicity plays a role in admission, but I was just curious as to why I received this email this time and not the last. It could be nothing so I’m not going to get my hopes up. I have the odds stacked up against me in attempting to transfer from an out of state four-year institution anyway.

@socalsea‌ Ooh nice! I was born in Hawaii and spent 10 years there! I think it gives you the upper hand (to an extent). My friends sister who is African American was admitted (full ride) to UW with a 3.0 GPA. She personally claims that her ethnicity played a role in her acceptance and scholarship.

@socalsea Oh and good luck with your application! I hope you get in. Although odds aren’t necessarily in your favor, there’s always a chance! The waiting game sucks, but hopefully it’s worth it in the end.

@UWchancemeh Wow, what a coincidence!!! I love my home, but Seattle would definitely be a close second. That’s awesome for your friend’s sister. Fingers crossed it could do something for me as well.

@UWchancemeh‌ thank you! And good luck to you as well, and to everyone else awaiting an admission decision.

@socalsea‌ I agree, Seattle is the place to be. Great school, food, people, and most importantly it’s a beautiful city. May I ask what your stats are? I’ll post mine right now, people are bound to ask once letters start pouring in haha

Stats:

South Puget Sound Community College

GPA: 3.30
HS uw GPA: 3.36
ACT: 25

Major: Public Health
Pre requisites: Completed
Credits: 50 (Will have 65 by the end of Fall 2014) not all will transfer

Essay: Focused a lot on my struggles through senior year and into my first year at SPSCC and what motivated me to pursue public health.

Sex: Male
Ethnicity: Korean American

If it’s worth anything, I am the child of an active duty military personnel

@UWchancemeh‌ sure! My stats are as followed:

Stats:

Pepperdine University

GPA: 3.8
HS GPA: 3.8
SAT: 1970

Major: Biology, but hoping to change to Biochem if accepted to UW
Prerequisites: 2 more, but 1 was not available to me this semester, and the other is not equivalent to any other courses at my current college
Credits: 66 credits ( 81 by end of fall 2014, not including AP credits) not all will transfer

Essay: Essay about why I want to transfer, being culturally aware as a multicultural student, what led me to want to pursue a biochem major.

Sex: Female
Ethnicity: Mixed

@UWchancemeh‌ do you know if they count AP credits when taking into account the number of credits you are being accepted with?

@socalsea‌ Wow! I think you have a fairly good shot although you’re an OOS student and already at a 4-year. Great stats, especially for a student attending such a competitive University. I’m sure UW will recognize your efforts at Pepperdine and accept you :D

@socalsea‌ I would assume so. It would be inconvenient to go back and count the number of credits after you’ve been accepted.
You should make sure that they’re still valid, I’ve heard that some Universities don’t accept AP credits after a certain number of quarters/semesters at a college. I’ve also heard of schools that don’t accept AP credits unless it’s directly out of HS.

@UWchancemeh‌ I can only hope! You’re stats look great as well. You seem to be the perfect candidate and I cannot imagine under what circumstances they would reject you. Best of luck again. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for the both of us.

@UWchancemeh‌ that makes sense. Thanks for the advice

@socalsea‌ Thanks! Best of luck to us all! Getting in to UW would be an awesome Xmas present this year haha.

@UWchancemeh @socalsea‌ Good luck to you both! My birthday is next week so I’m hoping there will be some good karma there! Who knows though, UW likes to make us wait.

@Andielle‌ Thanks! Best of luck to you too. Happy early birthday  Hope all your wishes and dreams come true, especially the one regarding UW!
