UW Winter 2015 transfer thread

@Andielle‌ Really? That’s horrible, especially if you have to commit to another school by December.

@Andielle‌ If I get accepted in December and don’t get an on-campus dorm I think I’ll be homeless in Seattle. How is a student supposed to find a place within less than 2 months in the middle of Seattle (especially as an OOS)?

Did any of you apply to multiple schools, if so how many, or is UW your only option?

@whitechiner I currently live at home in a suburb of a Seattle but I’m desperate to get out so I contacted UW housing and asked them if they intend to have on-campus housing available for those entering winter quarter. They reassured me and told me they have plenty of housing for everyone who wants it so if you get accepted in December, I feel confident they will have on-campus housing for you.

This is my first quarter out of high school but because I did running start (college in high school) I’ll have about 60 credits by winter quarter. I applied to UW Bothell for last fall as a freshmen and I got accepted, but wasn’t a fan of the campus so decided to stay at Bellevue College. For winter quarter, I applied to UW Bothell as my backup for this quarter and if I don’t get into Seattle, I’ll just be going there. Do you have any back ups?

@whitechiner‌ I applied to Seattle University, Western and Wsu and got accepted to all three, but UW is my number one choice and it just sucks because their acceptance/rejection letters come in SO late. The wait is seriously killing me. October is going by way too slow. I also have no idea what I’m doing for housing either, but it seems cheaper to get a place on campus then it to get an apartment. I think they’ll be plenty of housings available at UW so I wouldn’t sweat it too much.

Well, today was the final day to turn in transcripts and other missing paperwork!

@UWchancemeh I didn’t know that. I’m hoping they got all my paperwork. I haven’t received any confirmations but I haven’t received any emails asking for them either. Here’s to hoping they got everything :-S

@Andielle‌ Don’t worry, I’m pretty confident that they received all your paperwork if they did not state otherwise. I received an email on October 2, 2014 regarding my missing HS transcript, so I’m sure that they would have e-mailed you if anything were missing. For safe measures I would call the office of undergraduate admissions to confirm. Better safe than sorry, but I’m sure you’re fine.

@Andielle‌ I actually highly encourage you to call and ask. The advisor that was overseeing my application sent me an email with the incorrect transfer term (date) and even sent me an email intended for another transfer applicant. After thinking about that, I think you should definitely check in. Kind of ridiculous if you ask me…Good luck!

@UWchancemeh I agree! I changed my fall schedule after I sent in my application. Admissions gave me an email and told me to email this lady so I did. After my advisor gave me incorrect advise, I dropped the class and emailed the same lady again explaining my situation. She never responded to either of my emails which is kind of frustrating. I’m kind of nervous this switching up of my fall scheduled annoyed them. But anyways, we’re approaching November!

@Andielle‌ Geez, sorry to hear that. I had some issues regarding the “courses” section of the application where you state your Fall classes too. Luckily, the admissions specialist I was working with at UW said that he made a note of it on my application before sending it to the final phase. I know! I bet people will start finding out through the transcript trick as early as next week!

@UWchancemeh How do you know if your application is in the final stages? Looks like you had someone good working with you! Admissions rarely replies to my emails or is helpful.

@Andielle‌

My admissions specialist e-mailed me after I sent in my transcript and wrote, “Thank you for your quick reply. I have received your high school transcript and your file has moved on to the final part of our review. Decision letters will be mailed out starting in November through December.”
Meh, they were slow to respond at times!

I know this question seems stupid, but how does the admissions team determine whether or not you finished all the needed pre requisites for your major?
What I’m trying to ask is, do they pull up your transcript and information on your major and compare them side by side? Or was there a part on the application asking about pre requisites that I missed haha?

@UWchancemeh‌ I was wondering the same thing. I was told they only really evaluate course equivalencies after a student is admitted. That being said, I have no idea how they would know if you finished all of your prerequisites.

@socalsea‌ hmm yeah, especially since UW seems to put a lot of emphasis on finishing your pre requisites before transferring.

@UWchancemeh‌ I’m pretty sure once you pay the fee for the individual course evaluation or whatever they determine whether you meet the requirements. That’s what I think, anyways. I don’t know.

@whitechiner‌ What do you mean by fee? :o I was just curious because in the previous Winter 2014 transfer thread, someone mentioned that they spoke to the UW admissions specialist and they said that having all your pre requisites finished looks really good on your application. I just noticed that I finished all my pre requisites haha, thought I had another one left.

@whitechiner I feel like they probably pull up the prereqs for your intended major and compare just those classes (and not any general ed class). I have one prereq class left, but I can’t apply to my major until after I’ve taken 10 credits at UW anyways. I indicated this in my application.

@Andielle‌ Hopefully that’s how it works :D

Has anyone received an email from the Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity? I received one this time around, but didn’t last time I applied. Has anyone else by any chance received this email?
