@whitechiner do you mind me asking where you are from? I am an out of state applicant too, I honestly keep calling my parents to see if I got a rejection yet because the odds are stacked up against us as OOS students.

@whitechiner I am going to school in California but am from Hawaii, so my letter will be sent all the way to Hawaii

@socalsea You’re from Hawai’? ! I am too!

@nalu12 YES! I am!!! Are you applying as well?

@UWchancemeh My message is still the same “Thank you for applying…we will inform you by postal mail…”

@UWchancemeh Thanks for the kind words. Yes, the message says “Thank you for applying for admission to the Seattle campus of the University of Washington. We have reviewed your application and regret that we are unable to offer you admission for winter quarter 2015. An official letter notifying you of this decision was sent via postal mail. We appreciate your interest in the University of Washington and all of the time and effort that went into your application.”

@Husky1995 There is no mention of why the rejection came.

@socalsea I currently attend a community college in Idaho, about 20 miles east of the Washington border. Not from Idaho, though, I grew up in Asia.

@Andielle same! At this point being uncertain is a positive thing.

@whitechiner I’m so sorry. Yes I agree you are such a string candidate. Good luck in your future endeavors.

Just for everyone else who is reading this. I kept checking that message in the application link last time I applied (because I wasn’t aware of the transcript trick) and it said the same message even after I received a rejection letter. That being said I agree that the transcript trick is the most accurate way of knowing if you were accepted and the application message MAY be a helpful indicator. Like I said my message didn’t even change to the same message as whitechiner’s after I received a rejection.

*strong @whitechiner

@socalsea Yes I am!

@socalsea

Thanks for the update. Sorry to hear about the rejection letter.
I wish you the best in whatever you decide on pursuing.
Pepperdine University is a great 4-year institution that you should be proud of attending, not many people have the opportunity/stats to get in!
Do big things!

@UWchancemeh Sorry if my message was confusing. I haven’t heard back yet. The information in the other post was info that I obtained from getting rejected last time I applied. I’m still waiting with the rest of you!
@nalu12 that’s great! Good luck to you!

@socalsea Oh great! Haha, you had me scared for a second. I was like, “everyone in this post is getting rejected, I’m next…”

I’m probably going to end up at University of Miami now that I didn’t get into Washington. Unless Northwestern lets me in (yeah lol).

@whitechiner Ooh Miami, sounds nice and relaxing!

Hey everyone,

I am new to the forum and I thought I would share my experience (hoping that it would encourage at least a few people).

I think everyone has a MUCH better chance as a transfer applicant and although I have heard of the “unofficial transcript trick”, I wouldn’t say it works the other way around. Here is why:

I applied last year as an in-state transfer who had already been rejected once (freshman year). My stats were MUCH better back when I was a freshman applicant. Quick comparison:

high school stats (rejected)
-3.89 cumulative GPA
-AP test scores either 4/5 or 5/5 (Physics B, Physics C, Chem., English, Government, Spanish, US History, World History, etc)
-Awards from DECA (in-state and national competitions)
-Key Club (volunteered at 3 large hospitals; over 400 hours)
-2100 on SAT

transfer stats (accepted)
-3.5 cumulative GPA (didn’t study my freshman year; 4.0 departmental GPA for intended major prereqs but this was only a few classes)
-DID NOT have an AA degree (not even full 90 transferable credits)
-Random selection of courses
-DID NOT apply directly to major
-3 hardship withdrawals (HW on transcript)
-2 withdrawals (W on transcript)
-2 retakes (R on transcript)

Yes…so I wouldn’t say people with lower GPAs don’t stand a chance. My friend got in with a 2.9 last year. In terms of the “unofficial transcript trick”…my transcript didn’t load until after I received the acceptance letter.

The first letter I ever received from UW was a sad, little, white envelope. It was a single-page, tri-fold letter about the transfer orientation. I received that 1-2 weeks BEFORE I got the purple packet and acceptance letter. It comes with a deadline to send a check if you decide to enroll.

I opened it AFTER the deadline because I am so bad at checking my mail. It was postmarked on the first day of distribution (first batch of acceptance letters) and yet my transcript wasn’t loaded until 2 weeks later.

So don’t freak out if your transcripts aren’t loading. Don’t panic if you see a white envelope—it could be your orientation invitation. If you are rejected, you can always appeal (it doesn’t hurt to try). Also, don’t worry if your GPA is too low because admissions will see how you progressed throughout the years. Finally, best of luck to everyone!

@husky1212

Wow! Honestly speaking, you took a lot of worry off of my back. I’ve been stressing ever since I turned in my application, which was about a month ago. Day in and day out, I’ve been checking my status T.T

I would say I’m in a very similar situation that you were in before. I have a (W) on my transcript as I withdrew from a class intended for my previous major. I too didn’t do too well the first few quarters, but stepped it up in the recent quarters. I have a 4.0 in my pre requisites, did not apply directly to major, and a lot of random classes. No AA, less than 90 credits, and the list goes on.

Glad to see that someone still made it, I bet you were/are a very determined student. I hope that I’ll be able to make it this year too! Thanks for sharing your experience with all of us! GO HUSKIES

@husky1212 Thank you for the encouragement! Do you mind telling us how many credits you had by the time you entered UW?

I am glad to hear that I could help! I had 78 credits. I switched my intended major so many times throughout my freshman/sophomore year that my classes seemed SOOO random. It’s to the point I would assume that I was aiming for Foster school if I were an admissions committee.

I even took a few quarters off (that’s where the “hardship withdrawals” are from). So there’s still hope for everyone!

Hopefully everyone is still going strong.
Seems like UW has been quiet for a day or two so hopefully acceptances are scheduled to come out next!
