I am freaking out about these apps! Honestly, I still have three short essays to do, the apps are due in on the 13th (British National Committee). Argh! Curse you procrastination!

Anyways, I really need some help with one prompt, it’s been nawing at my brain for so long now. It’s: "Describe how you identify with Britain, and what aspects of British society you would like to share with people from other nationalities. "

This is a toughie, as i didn’t spend my childhood here and I only have a small understanding of British Culture. Anyone have any ideas on how to tackle this?

Oh and if anyone wants to exchange essays for editing and feedback, I can help out and hopefully vice versa? (I will not steal anyone’s essay. Only here to help.)

@mirvinvitela and @Stuffzhappenin – I’m so glad to know that I’m not alone in my nervousness!

@Stuffzhappenin: As I am from the US, I really don’t know how to help you with the “identification with Britain” portion, but I do know that whenever I meet foreign exchange students, I want to know about things ranging from their position on world issues and events (perhaps that could be connected to how your society views things?) to smaller stuff like typical teen culture (what you do for fun/in your spare time, etc). Maybe you could include dislodging any stereotypes about the British that you know of, so that people from other nationalities don’t get a skewed view of your society? Hope this helps, even if it’s only the tiniest bit!!!

@knoxandonyx Thank you so much! Those are some pretty sick ideas! You now win a virtual badge for temporarily removing my writers block. Congratulations!

@Stuffzhappenin – You’re welcome! Very glad to win the virtual badge! I know how hard it can be to come up with stuff for essays (we have a few over here on our apps that have been giving me issues … )

@shamu7789-- I took it to mean “student copy of standardized test scores” but now that you mention “transcript” that sounds right to! Argh! I hate not knowing!

No, if you took the test recently, your scores should be available online. On the test website, there is a Student Report tab/button. Save it as a .jpeg, and then you can upload it directly to the application. You still need to send in an official report, too.

@CarpeDiem234 and @uwc2014 - thanks for answering! The campus sounds very cool.

For clarification regarding scores…

Test scores are self-reported (typed) and a photocopy is submitted in the application, but we also have to independently get the testing agency/our schools to submit the scores.

Counselors submit grade transcripts.

…I think? I assume that transcripts are included in the online counselor recommendation form.

We only need to put in one standardized test score, but is anyone going to put in more than one? Can you even do that? (Should you?) I’m debating between PSAT and ACT, and I just don’t know which one would be better.

@lunascreatures and @shamu7789 – I’m rewriting several as well, and pruning for word count, so I’m not done either. I’m super nervous too, but we just have to work hard, believe we will do well, and cross our fingers! :+)

Wait - when submitting the test scores photocopy, do we scan the printed reports ourselves, or does College Board have a jpeg file? If the latter, where can this be accessed?
