UWC Applicants for the year 2015

I have brown hair in the pic btw

Hi, i am an Egyptian student looking forward to applying for UWC in 2015 , any advice ?

What is the UWC? I’ve heard of it but I don’t really know what it is.

Hi, i am an Egyptian student looking forward to applying for UWC in 2015 , any advice ?

Hi, I am an American student applying for UWC for 2015-2017. My top choices of colleges are:

Robert Bosch College (Germany)

Atlantic College (Wales)

Pearson College (Canada)

I also really LOVE the Dilijan one… but my parents would never let me go there. :frowning: I wouldn’t mind the UWC-USA one either, it looks amazing, just it would be nice to go to school out of my country.

What about everyone else?

How is the selection in your country ? @softballgirl16‌

I think ~600 students apply with written applications, then ~100 are selected for interviews, and 50 are chosen for scholarships. Out of the 50, 25 go to the UWC-USA I believe, then another group go to Atlantic College and then the rest are dispersed around the world. How is it in Egypt? @Ritagg

300 or more apply it differs every year , they do a written exam and then some are chosen for an activity day and the last step is a personal interview , less than 10 are chosen every year :frowning: @softballgirl16‌

I know, the statistics frighten me, only 1/12 make it in my country and 1/30 in yours! Both numbers are very daunting and I am very scared for applications… :-S No one really gets why I’m applying anyway, so if I don’t make it in it won’t really matter that much, I have next year. @Ritagg

It’s really hard to reach sll the steps and get accepted , unfortunately i won’t be able to apply for the next year , this year is my only chance :frowning:
Anyways, good luck @softballgirl16‌

Good luck to you too! I have to go to bed, so bye! @Ritagg

Me too, bye @softballgirl16‌

Hi guys  I’m from Hong Kong and I’d love to get into LPCUWC or UWNRCN for the 2015 school year. Norwegian culture fascinates me and the scenery is simply breathtaking in RCN, but LPC is in Hong Kong after all, so I’m pretty much torn between the two.

LPC students gained an average of 37.53 points in 2013, compared to Atlantic’s 36 (2012) and Maastricht’s 34 (2012). However, I found no info about RCN’s IB scores. Does anyone know anything about them?

I’m aiming for UCLA or UCB for college, and I know that LPC is a pretty safe bet for top American universities. Does anyone know if RCN offers enough support for students applying to American universities? And does anyone know anything about university offers received/destinations of RCN students somehow?

I’m already in 11th grade though, so I really do hope I’ll get into UWCs. My national committee starts accepting applications on 3rd Oct, so I’m pretty nervous!

I’d be ever so grateful if someone would reply to this haha :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey there, I’m an American student very interested in applying to UWC. I just learned of this program a couple of days ago, and was hoping you guys (particularly in the USA) could clarify a couple things for me:

Do all accepted applicants in the US get full scholarships to the UWC campus they attend?

Roughly how many applicants are there from the USA? How many are accepted and how do the interviews play in to this? Does my location (Kentucky) affect anything in regards to applications, interviews and admission?

And lastly, what standards are applicants held too? In my case in particular, I have a 30 on the ACT, will have completed 5 AP courses by this years end, and I have studied Arabic for 1 year.
I also have roughly 100 hours of community service, and I am passionate about studying abroad.

With those things in mind, where do I stand in regards to other applicants and what is expected of from UWC?

@‌DWilliam
Okay I’m not a USA applicant but I’m pretty well informed about the process. So yes US applicants get full scholarship if they get in. There are about 500 applicants in total and about 50 get selected. 25 go to UWCUSA and the other 25 to various other colleges around the world. There is not a ‘you must get over this score to be able to apply or attend’ kinda thing but you should get a decent score to show them that you would be able to cope with the IB as its really friggen hard and will drive you into a caffeine addiction, to say the least. I think that your scores would be good enough for the ib but I’m not the selection committee so… Oh and your location in the states doesn’t affect much, since, as far as I know, all the applicants have to go to the uwc campus in NM, but before that there is a skype interview. Your community service will also help, and activities like mun, unicef, red cross, etc, are useful to have, plus they’re reaaalllyy fun. From my understanding of the national committees’ decisions you should be open-minded but not enough for people to turn you against your traditions or country or whatever, and you should be aware of what’s going on in the world and in your own country, you should be able to cope with the ib, you should be able to cope with being away from your family and being mature which is why the us committee usually chooses juniors over sophomores, and you should be enthusiastic and passionate about the movement, but don’t try to mold yourself into the perfect candidate, they don’t want perfect they want you, if you were perfect there would be nothing for you to gain from the uwc experience, so try to be you, and let them make the call, cause really not everybody is fit for the uwc life, no matter how much you want it, you gotta trust that the committee knows what they are doing and that it’s for the best if you don’t get in, but still bust your balls trying. That’s all from me and good luck!

By the way, we have a facebook group, where most of the activity happens, and if you’re on fb or comfortable using it, it’s called UWC Applicants for 2015-2017, with the people form this cc group, which is about 20 or so of us, and then there’s a much bigger one called UWC Applications 2015 World, with about 400 people and counting. I can’t post links on cc so just look them up if you want to or inbox me on cc with your fb name and I’ll add you!

I am from Egypt and i want to know more about the selection in Egypt, do you know anything about it? @CelineTRKY‌

@Ritagg‌ no sorry but you should check out your national committee’s websire they usually have all the info on there, http://www.eg.uwc.org/how-to-apply/selection-criteria</a>

Wow that worked I thought we couldn’t post links, oh well.

Thank you, good luck.
I’ve requested to join The UWC applications 2015 group. @CelineTRKY‌
