UWC applicants year 2014

@cranberries97- You mean finding the College? My sister did her IB in MUWCI already … So I know pretty much about it. And this is the second I’m applying and as I’ve already told ya… last time it was my age shortage I couldn’t apply. And BTW Thanks for the wishes and same to you!

PS: Now , my excitement’s becoming unbearable :stuck_out_tongue: :D

Agh guys I’m starting to stress just a little bit now we’re properly into term with exams coming up and I have like a month and a half left to complete my application. It’s those essays worrying me  But good luck all!

Do you think having already taken IB classes will help or hurt you? because they might think you can just get a similar education at your own school…

@spislaa… Hey! already taking IB classes will surely help you! There’s nothing much about it which will hurt your future IB years  BTW you applying for MUWCI or any other UWC and whre are you from?
@pashay Heya! I guess month and a half is long time! You could complete it  Don’t worry you’ll do good! And all the best for your exams and App too! B
PS: Where are you from guys? I’m from India! :D

So I was wondering what format you guys were writing your essay responses in?

Hey guys!

I’m kinda late to the party… -awkward eye shift- but I’ve absolutely been in love with UWC for the past half year, and I’m just starting the American application. I’m going into Year 11 (or Year 12 for some of you) and after reading this forum, I’m not sure my credentials are up to par with the rest of you. I have a 4.6 GPA and am currently taking 3 AP classes. I’m on the Speech and Debate team for the past two years, and this year I joined the Service club, the Cross Cultural Club, and helped form a political club. I volunteer at my local retirement home, orphanage, and Special Olympics. I’ve done theatre and voice for four years. I speak a bit of Mandarin and am currently teaching myself French. Right now my favorite colleges are AD and LPC, although the one in Germany sounds interesting too.

What do you guys think? I’m so glad I found this forum and I wish everyone here the best of luck!

Why don’t we start an FB group? Easier to access? What say people?

A Facebook group would be good, I would join.

That is a good idea but unfortunately not for me. The problem is that I won’t tell anyone (except my closest family) that I am applying and so on only if I get in and I leave my school. This is because of a previous thing that happened to me. So If I join the group or comment they would see that and they would find out about my plans. :/

Canadian apps come out November 1st!!

I just heard about UWC maybe 3 days ago. I haven’t stopped thinking about it since, I’m so excited seeing as I’m sure this is just the beginning of a forum that will last us throughout the app process.

Oh and started a UWC 2014 Applications Facebook page!

https://www.facebook.com/pages/UWC-2014-Applications/174438019412873?skip_nax_wizard=true

What’s up guys? BlueScarlett, good to hear from another Canadian thinking about UWC! I hope you all are getting excited, I am and I’ve already gone through it!

If any of you have any questions about the application feel free to message me, post on this thread, or find me on Facebook (provided you message me on here first) and I will be thrilled to help!

Ciao tutti!
As now being a student at UWC Adriatic, I can only encourage everyone to sent in an application - Remember, you won’t get in if you don’t try! As Patrick, above me - As far as I can see, I’ll be thrilled to help you out!
Remember, no matter how far you get during the selection-process - You should be proud of yourself. It takes a lot of courage to simply just sent in the application.

Dear chelinakp,
I am really interested in the music program of Adriatic College. Garyoak wrote that AD has a music program similar to a conservatory. Is it possible to take part in the music program but not choose to study music as one of you IB subjects? And could you describe the program in only a few words, please?
Thank you for your help!

Dear MediDuet,

I can’t speak for Adriatic, and I’m sure that chelinakp will be better able to answer your question, but I will say that at UWC-USA you certainly can take music without the class. The school will even pay for it, although some students from well-off countries with full scholarships choose to pay themselves. I myself got tired of my other instruments and decided to leave them at home in favour of learning guitar whilst here.

Hope this will help, and again chelinakp will be able to answer even better for you I’m sure.

My son loves the music program at Atlantic College. He has a terrific piano teacher and especially enjoys learning composition with the Sibelius program. All students at AC can take music lessons - 1 hr private lesson/wk HL, 30 min/wk SL for free and 30 min/ wk for a fee for students not taking music in IB. My D started out in HL music at USA but it was a 7th subject so she dropped it in her 2nd year. She developed passions in other areas and didn’t want to spend that much time in music.

Thank you so much CanadianEh323 and Apollo6 for your answers!

I’m awfully sorry for not replying earlier @cranberries97, I forgot my password… Rookie mistake. :frowning: I’m actually applying through the GB national committee because I’ve lived here most of my life, but I am still from India. I have a dual passport but a British citizenship. Eh, it’s complicated.

Dear MediDuet!
Actually you CAN’T take music as a part of your IB here, anymore. You take music as a part of your creative activity! I do choir, madrigal choir and solo-singing. Besides that, we have a Music course, I think it includes piano, singing and some other stuff. I’m not really that much in to that course but I know it’s quite popular.
There is one more course, I heard it’s quite hard because you need to work hard and do it side by side your IB, but you sign up for special classes with professional teachers from Trieste(?) and you will get something in return in the end. So I’ve heard!
But music here is super available and easy to get along with!
