UWC applicants year 2014

In our applicaton form we have a question: Is there anything else you want us to know about you?
My question is, do you think I should write that I read a lot in English on the internet( mainly experiments) and that all the medical stuff that I watch is in English? Because I progress a lot because of this (mainly my vocabulary but my grammar as well) but it is not a requirement to speak English here. I am frightened that it’s maybe too much for them.

@MediDuet wow! I’ll definitely be going on that website.
And about the application question: I’d say go for it. Put it on the application. It gives them a better impression of the kind of person you are.
And I’m just curious, do you want to be a doctor? You said you were watching medical stuff in English so I’m just wondering.

I’d just like to say that my aunt is a host family for UWC so she knows a bit about the schools and knows some alumni (she lives in New Mexico, USA). If anyone has any questions, I’ll try and ask her for you. :)

Reading through this is incredible. Every one who has said what they do on here, seems so talented, and hard-working! You all have sooo many ECs and it’s crazy! You also all seem incredibly academically able! I wouldn’t be surprised if all of you really do get in! Fair play to you all! And like @MediDuet said: believe in yourself!

@Santoast13, thank you! Then I’ll write it down. Yess I want to be a doctor soo bad. I am just kind of obsessed with medicine. :D

@MediDuet That’s so awesome! I also want to be a doctor! It’s been my dream since I was a little girl. I want to be a heart surgeon, what about you? I was getting a little nervous, it seemed like everyone applying wanted to do something with politics. I thought that was hard to beat when it comes to why I want to go. But now I’m excited! :D

@Santoast13, it is strange. I also want to be a surgeon since I was a little girl. (6 years old)
My dream is to became a traumatologist. I also love neuro, vascular and cardiothoracic surgery. I have an reason to all so I’ll see which is the best for me.
I’ve seen a diagram on either UWC’s site or AC’s site about fields that alumni work in. I was surprised that actually quite a big part goes into medicine. Almost as much as those who go into politics. I’ll try to find that diagram later on.

@MediDuet wow, I was actually looking into neurology for a while but I’ve settled for cardiovascular surgery. It turns out it involves more than just the heart so I think that’s what I’m happiest with. It is amazing that so many go into medicine. I guess that means we are on the right path :)

[UWC - Alumni Profiles | UWC](http://www.uwc.org/our_impact/alumni_profiles/default.aspx) found it :D

@Santoast13 yes, and also I don’t think it would be disadvantage even if only a few people chose medicine since thay want diversity. Being a doctor is making a change every day. In a different way though, not for the whole world but for one. And partially that’s what they want. :)

@MediDuet thank you. You are right, I guess I just stress myself out even though I shouldn’t be. It’s just nice to know someone with similar interests.

So I always wanted to go to UWC RCN but my body can’t handle the cold weather, I’ll easily lose circulation. Should I put it farther down on my list? I do have other places in mind, I just love the fact that they work with the red cross

@Santoast13 if it causes you a problem then I think you should. I love RCN it was my first because of Red Cross but because of music now Ad is my first. Working with the Red Cross must be amazing but you can study biology and chemistry/physics at any of the college (as far as I know) and I think your health is the most important.

@MediDuet yea I’m looking into Pearson and AD now. I don’t think it’ll work in Norway. Who knows, maybe we’ll see each other in AD

@Santoast13, I wish we would be co-years! I don’t care at which UWC that happens. It would mean we got in! :)

Is anyone here interested in Theatre and acting?

I have found this on the website of Adriatic College: ‘It will be noted below that all Diploma students must write an examination in their own language and literature. Students of languages not provided with teachers or mother tongue tutors, take their own language as a “self-taught” subject, under the guidance of the Head of Languages A1.’
I still don’t really understand it. Does it mean that I have to sit an exam in my own language even though I choose English A1 for example?

Santoast13 can u stay with host families for all the holidays? Because idk if I would be able to afford travelling each year :/

No because English is taught. If you choose a language that is not taught as an A language e.g. Albanian then you’d enrol in lessons under ‘self-taught’ and write essays for that language

essayforums.com seems like a good website. Are any of you guys going to be using it for help on your essays?

MediDuet sorry if that explanation was a bit confusing I just mean you wouldn’t have to write essays in ur own language if you didn’t choose self taught as your A language

Okp1000 I don’t really want to cos I want to keep it personal and if I read someone else’s essay I may be more inclined to write in their style - however idk maybe just to sort out structure and the general topics that everyone’s writing about … Do the essay writers reveal if they were accepted or not?
