UWC applicants year 2014

@Hedwig8, thank you very much!
@okp1000, I like reading others’ essays there but I won’t upload mine. The main reason is that I won’t translate it to English. I also want to keep it personal. I am not sure if it is good for example that anyone can read about my family and friends there. I know they don’t even know who I am but I am a bit sceptical about it.

Hedwig8 unfortunately they don’t say if they got accepted. I understand what you’re saying though.

@Hedwig8 absolutely! That’s what they’re for!

So where does everyone want to go

@santoast13 I actually don’t mind too much - only thing holding me back is price of travel … I really like the subjects offered at Pearson, USA and Adriatic… Atlantic looks pretty good too (I’d like to travel though). The Red Cross one is soo pretty though!! I wish they’d release more info about the Armenia and Germany UWCS that are opening soon :/

@Hedwig8 haha those are literally the EXACT places I want to go. I wanted to go to te Red Cross one too, but i lose circulation easily in the cold. Just by touching a cold glass I will. So Norway is out unfortunately. But who knows, maybe we will be classmates! And I’m pretty sure UWC has support programs if you can’t afford it. What country are you from?

Hopefully!! I’m from UK hence why Im a bit iffy bout going to Atlantic, what bout you?

I’m from the USA. I’m a little iffy about going there, but my mom wants me to go there so I’m closer to home. But honestly I want to travel across the world!

I agree with Santoast13’s thoughts about wanting to go far from home! But I feel like its so hard to choose between all the colleges as they all sound so great! Although I do think the fact that waterford kamhlaba operates on the South African school schedule is cool. But maybe that’s just because living in DC there are about a million internships that would open up during the school day in the winter :)

Finally finished both my essays but they’re both over the word limit :(

Okp1000 you may have already thought of this but try using lengthier words or short phrases to sum up some of your thoughts. I had other people help me with this. It’s good to have someone else’s point of view so you know it’s easily understood without going over the limit. I know I thought I had my essay under control but had lots of feedback from others about how to shorten it while still making it sound better

Santoast13 Thanks. I already planned to do that, I’m giving it to my english teacher tomorrow. Hopefully she can help me shorten it.
Oh and persons were talking about it before about the rate of acceptance and I spoke to someone from the national committee here in Jamaica and they said about 50 or 60 persons apply and about 5 or 6 get spaces each year.

@okp1000 oh wow. But it’s funny, I also had my English teacher read mine. :)

@okp1000, congrats on finishing them! But adding on to Santoast13, if you change words just remember to use mostly words you know and not just any shorter/longer word you can google. You dont want to sound like you threw up a thesaurus.

Am I the only one who has to write the applications in my native language and not in English? :open_mouth:
I’ll only have to translate one of my essays to English if I get to the last round of selections.

I asked both my form master and my favourite teacher to write my recommendations. My favourite teacher was so nice, so I hope for the best.

Am I the only person who hasn’t finished the application? (from UK)

@Hedwig8, although I am not from the UK (sorry about that) but I think you are definietely not. There are only a few people here from UK which means you don’t know about the others who are probably further back than you. I think you shouldn’t stress so much about it just work on your applications at your best. I wish you very best of luck!

@MediDuet thank you, you’re so sweet! Good luck to you too :)

For teacher recommendations, d
