@okp1000 I almost never go on twitter, but the one day I did I saw the same thing!! It’s exciting that we can go to NEW colleges for UWC. WE CAN BE THE FIRST TO EXPERIENCE IT

It is pretty exciting to be able to be the first to experience it, but I have conflicted feelings about going to one. I sort of feel like you’d be missing out on a lot of the traditions and customs the UWCs have… but then again, you could start new ones! I guess I’d want to know a bit more about them first. (Although I should stop counting my chickens before they hatch :)) What do the rest of you guys think?

@tecz77, I totally agree with you. I would love to be the member of the first ever generation of a College (it would mean that I got accepted ) and I would really enjoy exploring the opportunities and the surroundings ( place for hanging out with others and so on) and creating new traditions ( I have quite a lot of ideas). On the other hand, I guess it would be hard not having the second years how can guide us, help us to cope with IB, who we can look up to. We would miss getting to know a lot of people. But I wouldn’t refuse to go. I wouldn’t think about that even for a minute.

@MediDuet, my sentiments exactly! I think you really would miss out on quite a bit without 2nd years… You wouldnt have anyone to help you out, tell you what to do/ what not to do, and of course, no second year show! Maybe it’d be better in two years or so. But would would have an awesome legacy if you went the first year!
Do any of you guys know anything else about the new ones?
Or anything about Changsu?

Tecz77 u can search them up in google they have their own websites and stuff there’s not much info on them though … The Armenian one looks really expensive though (used to be a normal international school) and the RB college a bit… Empty?

If I remember well, RB is going to focus on the environment, environment protection, sustainability and so on. I’ve read it somewhere but I don’t remember where. Probably on the college’s website.

Yeah, I’ve read the websites, but I was just wondering if there was any other information I had missed… The sites dont tell very much about them, but I’m sure the committees know the colleges very well and will only place the people they think best in each college.

I wanna go so badly it’s becoming a sort of obsession lol

I would be more than happy to go to any of the colleges. I understand though what you guys are saying about the second years. I read some where probably on one of the websites that they would have a certain amount of second years and first years starting in September. So i was wondering if they were going to allow people to transfer. Maybe I read it wrong.

@Hedwig8, Join the club! I’m getting pretty obsessive too. I would be talking about it 24/7, if not for the fact that none of my friends know im applying…
@okp1000, I was actually just wondering about that. I dont think they would allow people to transfer from other UWCs (because they seem pretty strict about that), but maybe they’ll combine with another IB program for second years? Either way, its not the same as having second years…

So are the new schools opening for the coming September? If so, why aren’t they in the application on the preference sections? Because if they were in the college preference section, that would mean if we got accepted this year, and we put the new colleges as our 1,2, or 3rd preference, we could go to those colleges and be the first students ever!!
My second question is, I am a junior, so this is my last chance, and in the USA application, there are two years, 2013-2014 and 2014-2015. And my question is, which one am I supposed to apply for?

@tecz77 I haven’t told any of my friends either cos I don’t need any mire competition lol

I tried not telling my friends, but my reference went through all the senior members of staff in my school, and they announced me in assembly. EMBARASSING! hahaha! It’s funny because lets be honest, I’m unlikely to get in… And my whole year is expecting me to go! Next year I’ll probably be in sixth form like HEY GUYS, I’M BACK

@farmgirlmoo im sure you’ll get in dw! hopefully you’ll be on skype at a uwc college saying “hey guys” :D

@hedwig8, yeah, I dont need anymore competetion from my friends either. I’ve made the mistake of telling them about stuff and being beat out before, and I am NOT doing that again :)…
@Farmgirlmoo, that sucks that they announced that But stay optimistic :)

The last time I was on this thread I was on page 16! Nice to meet you all, and I’m glad to hear there’s more people going through a similar obsession. As for completing the app, @Hedwig8 I started mine in September and have only just finished mine the day we got the email (it was a bit annoying, but I had time to look over it and re check the many grammatical errors haha). I’ve only told my closest friends, and they’re not all that bothered as they’re all insistent to going to local colleges…

Hey guys. I’m trying to join UWC in Pune. Im 17 years old, but in the tenth grade, I didn’t go to school for two years due to personal reasons. I would be 18 years old for the 2014 semester which I am planning to apply for. I studied in the UAE and India.

Does anyone know if it is still possible for me to join even though I’m about 7 months too old? I read that exceptions are made for people that are a little older or a little younger but that’s generally for people who studied in countries that have a slightly different education system so they end up older or younger.

Lol yeah I mentioned it but didn’t really talk about how good it is and I deff didn’t mention the whole around the globe thing

@ripcity14 whatever just apply man and tell them about how u didn’t go to school and stuff it’s not really a big problem tbh or u could just call them or something and u dont really have much to lose so it’s fine

@Hedwig8 Do you go to UWC, are you an Alumni or are you applying? Sorry I didn’t read through all the posts I was pretty excited about joining then I learned that I might not be able to so I’m panicking a bit.

Do you know for a fact that it’s not too much of a problem? I will be contacting my national committee, it’s just that on the UWC Pune website it says that I have to been born in earliest september 1996 to apply, I was born in Feb. But on my national Committee website (India) It says 15 and a half to 18.
