Vanderbilt 2014 EDI Applicants Thread

i think they sent them regular mail

Does attending Pave(vanderbilt’s summer program) help you get into Vanderbilt?

It would have to be priority mail if they expect everyone to receive it by Thursday. I bet most people will hear tomorrow. The wait has been long enough. I just need to know if I should start my other applications!!! I want to get in soooo bad!
And summer programs don’t usually help people get in

Friends, what gets you into college is Y-O-U. And that’s what’s going to get 1/3 of you into Vandy…

I think they better be prepared for a bunch of phone calls on Thursday if they just sent them today by regular mail and it is the Christmas mailing season! My mail person comes normally (during the months other than December) before noon, but not until almost dark here (5:00) during December! We live in the Memphis area and I can’t imagine it getting here by tomorrow if they just sent it this morning. We will see I guess!

How do I get on this blog you’re all talking about?

There is a link to the Blog on the Vanderbilt Undergraduate admissions page. Go there and look on the right side of the page and you will see “Blog News Dates” and click on “Blog”. That should get you there.

Hey NYMetsFan and everyone, it’s Thom from VU Admissions,

The blog hit a technical glitch sometime this afternoon and has been temporarily taken down. The Vanderbilt IT folks will try and get it back up as soon as possible. If you would like to see what was posted earlier today with the ED info in it, North2South copied and pasted it earlier in this thread (post #155; http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1063714551-post155.html</a>). Sorry for the inconvenience.

thank you so much THOM from VU Admissions! Any chance you can tell us if the letters were shipped regular/priority mail? ground/air? thanks

dst219, they are sent regular mail and should get to most places around the country on Thursday or Friday (weather conditions/holiday volume not withstanding). As I mentioned though, you can call our office on Thursday morning if you would like to get your decision over the phone.

With due respect Thom, Vandy apps are about the last to know on ED1. This causes lots of folks to scramble before school gets out of session–and I don’t just mean the students (who don’t get in). The mailing method isn’t working.

Can Vandy make this the last year that it MAILS ED answers? After all, if Vandy can send an e-mail on app status, they can send one on accpetance/rejection.

Also, letting overseas folks know by e-mail and US not is just not appropriate.

Hope this feedback helps.

will the office be open Friday as well?

Thom,

…and the phone calling is a formula for disaster. You know you are going to get at least a 1000 calls tomorrow–because only some kids will get the letter in the mail today. Let’s say that each takes a minute and there is a 100 percent duty cycle. Then in a best case you have well over 15+ hours of calls to answer in an 8 hour day. Do you have 4 or 5 operators handy to work this? I can’t imagine you should, let alone do.

Vandy is a great school that has it’s act together, but this minor glitch is exasperating for a lot of kids AND adults–including guidance counselours IMO (who are trying to plan for those students who will now be applying to, say, 12 schools and need as much time as possible to get things out the door).

Having the official blog go down is just indefensible. Use my complaint too help get the ammunition you need to fix this.

My opinions–yours may differ.

Great school. Great people. Lousy IT.

Jessica92, yes the office will be open on Friday (as we are every weekday 8-5 CDT).

vanderbilt2014, thanks for taking the time for the feedback.

Like I said: great people.

Now–they need to give you the resources that leverages the great job you guys already did.

BTW admissions resources/IT is a COMMON problem at universities right now… a major state university had a disaster with their notification system yesterday and they are having to resort to snail mail. Try that on 12,000 applicants…

So don’t pick on Vandy friends:-) I wasn’t. I know Thom appreciates the suggestions.

Thom: Thanks for posting and providing updates. It is much appreciated by an anxious parent! We are keeping our fingers crossed. . .

Thom…

U r nw backup on the Vandy blog page:-) Circa 10:30AM EST.

Is Philadelphia likely to get their letters today or tomorrow? thanks!

does anyone know if they were sent out through reg post office or ups/fedex?

Regular post office
