Vanderbilt ED 2, UNC, or UT Knoxville?

I'm a white non-Hispanic male from rural West Tennessee. I'm the first in my class of 230+ students with a current ACT score of 30 (super score of 31) and a flawless 4.0 GPA. I'm very active in my school and community. I'm the president of 3 clubs, I sit on my county's Relay for Life executive committee, I am a HOBY ambassador, a graduate of a local leadership program, and a volunteer in Tennessee's highest volume emergency department. I have ALWAYS been interested in Vanderbilt, but I've heard awful things about applying for one of their two early decision cycles (they do not do rollover admission cycles). I plan on studying molecular biology of biochemistry and go pre-med with either.

Additional info: My father is a veteran, so that might make me eligible for certain scholarships and programs.

ED at Vandy if it’s your number 1. Why not do ED 1?

I had a friend with the same scores, similar activities, and the like apply ED1 and get turned down. I thought the pool of applicants would be smaller in ED2, thus possibly making my ACT score look a tab more desirable.
