Vanderbilt Fall 2020 Transfer Thread

@transfer2020 If you’d prefer going to BC over your current school, yes, you should really put down the deposit. Idk what’s going on with Vandy but it’s never a great idea to take a risk and commit yourself to betting on being admitted to a top school, even if it’s one with a higher acceptance risks.

I have until June 1st to deposit at Davis so Im letting this play out until last week of May. Vandy wasn’t my top choice (or second or third) but I really want to get out of CA and so far all my acceptances are in state. Berkeley, Davis, Santa Cruz, San Diego. Being oos and full need is likely working against me.

@transfergirl2020 was there any mention of why decisions are taking so long? Short staffed due to COVID, more applications than expected etc.,? Something?! The suckiest part of this is their lack of communication.

Hi everyone. My AO emailed back and said “we are planning on releasing transfers around mid-May so I would expect sometime next week.”
It seems that every AO says something different, so who knows! We’ll just have to keep an eye on the transfer website to see if they change deadlines, etc.

wow…i guess i’m going to put my deposit down for emory if vanderbilt doesn’t release decisions. my AO had told me we’d hear back within the first two weeks of may but i guess that’s not happening. don’t understand why they’re literally lying to students and being so inconsistent. i don’t want to get screwed over for housing and classes at another school bc i held out for vanderbilt, or worse yet, have to go back to my college if i don’t even get into vanderbilt and i didn’t put a deposit down for another school. i don’t think im going to withdraw my app though. i really can’t afford to lose $500 on a deposit at another school and then go to vandy instead easily, but ill have to consider that as a possibility. just overall very disappointed and frustrated.

@SatanFlower69 No, nothing  I was kind of hoping there might be an explanation too, but it seems they’re giving out a broad response. And same, I’m going to wait until the last week of May I think. Congratulations on all your acceptances to those amazing schools, but I hope you do end up getting out of Cali if that’s what you’re dreaming of!!

@niniwah thanks for sharing  when did you get that email, if you don’t mind me asking?

@transfergirl2020 @niniwah thank you both for taking the time to come here and update. ? Guess we’ll all have to wait a bit longer. Good luck everyone! Hang in there but definitely deposit elsewhere if necessary.

@transfergirl2020 I got the email this morning.

Good luck to everyone whose first choice is Vandy! (I’d also withdraw my app at this point, but I want to keep my options as open as possible in case I have a sudden change of heart.) But yeah, pleasee don’t let your spots at other good schools fall through. This is a pretty unfair situation and it’s not worth it to sacrifice amazing opportunities due to this.

Hey y’all!

I will soon be applying to transfer out of my community college and am strongly looking forward to going to a good pre law. Will you chance me? I’ll just lay out some major stats here:

*out of state, Boston, MA
*HS gpa ~ 4.6, graduated in the top percentile of my class but in what is considered an inner-city. 4’s on a couple AP tests
*College GPA, hopefully will be finishing with a 3.9
*working a full time job as a supervisor at a bank and part time as a pharm tech
*am currently 21, an independent student, overcame houselessness from HS
*attended Reed but have all W’s on my transcript because I had to leave 1st semester due to hospitalization
*SATs pretty low, 1260: 580 math, 680 reading (was going through some strong abuse at my residence so it’s noticeably suffered from my abilities)
*haven’t taken the ACT and would want to do that or retake the SAT, just nervous about that because my math skills are pretty poor and I’ve been out of high school for a few years now
*more ECs include : volunteerism
Mentorship
Culture vultures & pre-med club in college
honors program
pre med club
youth harbors participation (homeless prog I was a part of)

what I think can help me:
I have worked two jobs to support myself my entire college career now and have done pretty well grade wise! I’m a first gen, black/biracial queer women, I overcame a trauma and put my step-dad in prison and have done a lot of work around that area. I aspire to be part of student govt and have done a lot in my community.

what I think is hurting me:
my Reed transcript, my SAT scores, my college transcript has an entire semester of 3 Ws and 1 F (I got into a major car accident and was hospitalized for some time. If I withdrew from all courses I would be forced to pay thousands as I was on financial aided couldn’t afford that. I tried to finish 1 class but was near impossible while still working and recovering)

please don’t be afraid to share your thoughts and your story! I know school considers a lot more than just numbers but I have some really good numbers and some below average numbers, I don’t know how I level out here. also I would definitely take advice?! thank you!

@kemery09 my advice is to create a chance me thread rather than post here among a bunch of transfers still anxiously waiting for an answer.

thank you! I think I did and saw another person recommend I post here. I’m sorry

@kemery09 no worries ? Good luck

@kemery09 it sounds like you have a very compelling story, but if you want me to be frank, I just don’t think that the academics are there. With the lowish test scores and only coursework done at a CC, I’m not sure if there is a lot of evidence in the eyes of an AO that you’d be able to succeed there academically. But then again, I’m not them so I really have no idea how things would shake out.

@kemery09 I feel like you have a shot! Don’t give up!

@Ryckmann1334452 thank you! Definitely gonna try and do the ACT a couple times.

@mlplover69 this actually gave me a lot of hope! thank you! Definitely gonna try the ACT a few times

@kemery09 You’ve got this! These days everything is so crazy and random!! Good luck ?

@ui1234 thank you so much! and I definitely still working on strengthening my application

I saw all the new comments and got excited lol
