@Anon2017 Congrats to you for the acceptance! I accidentally posted in the decision thread because I was so eager to congratulate you. lol
Yeah, with my current FA I would not be able to attend either. I tried to email FA to get more info on like loans and such and it said the message was blocked from sending??? Idk lol. Im probably gonna call tomorrow and try to get more info. It would suck if I couldn’t go just because of FA
Thank you very much. I wish I could’ve afforded to attend. The University of Michigan - Ann Arbor gave me an outstanding financial aid package, so I will be there for my final two years. I wish you the best of luck!
How are people seeing their financial aid awards?
@awz278 There’s a little drop down thing where you select Your Information --> Financial Aid.
Basically got my current colleges package but with grants where there were Stafford loans. Yay! Unless I call and they tell me they probably can’t take a bunch of my credits, or I get into Rice or Emory with a good package, I’ll probably be attending Vandy.
@VaishS I assume your package was no loans? I believe you could also take out $6,500 in Stafford loans without a reduction in grant money. Hopefully you get a good package from Northwestern (or Penn!!!) and Vandy FA is irrelevant.
@usualhopeful yeah, I’m gonna be talking to them about loans tomorrow so hopefully I can come to a better number! And yesssss that would be the dream hehe <3
And Im glad the FA worked out well for you
I thought vanderbilt met 100% of need without loans?
@usualhopeful that’s what i did the first time, but I cannot see anything other than what I saw before I got accepted.
Does this mean I got no aid or they just don’t have the package yet??
@usualhopeful and when I go to estimated cost of attendance, it’s just full tuition and everything lololll
@pearmetty This is true. But remember, they determine what your need is- which may or may not be what you believe your own financial need to be. Every college has their own criteria for doing so.
@usualhopeful Heeey, why don’t you show up on the Rice transfer thread I made ages ago? It’s dead over there, and keep in mind… Our decisions for Rice come out in ten days hahaha MORE ANXIETY WOOOOT!
http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/rice-university/1951874-official-rice-university-fall-2017-transfer-thread-p3.html
@pearmetty I thought they did too. I guess they compare how much your “need” is compared to others. I have almost no money and live off of FAFSA and work-study from my community college. Vanderbilt doesn’t take into account that your parents may not assist you with paying for schooling. Everyone has their own scenario and pure numbers just can’t take that into consideration. I hope everyone who truly wishes to attend Vanderbilt gets in and receives the financial aid package they deserve!
I didn’t hear back. Oh this is great
One of the benefits of being an independent student is that they only factor my income into my financial aid
@awz278 I would call the FA office. I’m betting they just haven’t finished calculating yet - unless your FAFSA EFC was >60k, I doubt that you received no aid. Mine also has the separate “estimated COA” tab that just shows expenses without aid.
I too have Parke, and I too have not received a decision.
@usualhopeful ok, thank you for answering my questions. i currently go to emory, and I receive a fair amount of aid here so it would be peculiar if I received no aid.
anyone have yarritu and get in?
@AGoodFloridian I was really surprised. Now I don’t have to care about Cornell anymore. LOL
@mjr2013 , I was looking for you. Stay strong pal, it’s likely we’re going to hear back this week. Any day really.
(So much for Friday/Monday being the first wave, huh? Sheesh, these people really are unpredictable.)
It just means that any day could be the day. Just like that, an email in your inbox. Could happen while you’re walking in the street to get the daily newspaper. Or maybe when you’re taking off your socks after a hard day’s work.
