@SunZhaoyu I’m curious, whatdaya got over there at Grinnell to do for fun? I go to a college in a big city so I can’t even comprehend what it’s like there lol I’m also trying to prepare for other colleges I applied to that are also in small towns.
@HopefullyIGetIn In that case, the admission committee ultimately thought that the low GPA candidate worked harder. Once again, “help” isn’t the right word. But I understand your perspective and think we both have the same idea of how we think GPA is evaluated.
Could anyone give input on what the admission committee might think of a high overall GPA with a few low grades?
@michieee Like did you fail a few courses? In which case, I don’t think universities are especially fond of that. But like everyone else has stated previously, a more precise GPA is needed to evaluate.
@michieee My guess is that since they don’t have to worry about transfer applicant stats affecting their ranking or anything, that they care more about grades in individual classes rather than the overall GPA. So I’d say you’re fine
@JSPHHAN well, I did not know this b4 I actually enrolled here. I haven’t enrolled in any other schools b4, so I have nothing to compare to, but I’ll give u a brief perspective. I’m not sure if it’s because we are a STEM school, but we have absolutely no language class (only Chinese 4, so only ppl who already know some chinese can take it) offered at the school or even writing classes. There are like 2 classes for writing, but they always get full even before you get a chance to register. Besides that, school gives no funding for any clubs, and people are pretty dissatisfied about how the school makes it look like that they have a lot of programs, but in reality, all those programs are low in quality because of lack of funding. I’m not even sure how this school managed to be in 39th. It’s pretty impressive.
In my essay, I tried very hard to not sound like I was whining. And I recognized the fact that RPI had actually provided me with good motivation to transfer to other university for bigger dreams, through making me realize my true passion in my major , computer science. So I hope Vandy doesn’t see me as a whiny little kid…
Generally, people are mad nice here. But the school really needs help. I saw the statistics for the class of 2021, and it was grimmer than the last year.
@AGoodFloridian Thank you soooo much for giving me this relief… I am really stressed out and am refreshing MyAppVU every hour…
@Mastodon97 Well I usually play games and chill out with friends at local cafe lol
Really isn’t that much fun
@inordie That’s a completely justified reason to transfer, and I don’t think Vandy will preceive that as “whiny”. My high school was pretty similar. I was part of my school’s Speech and Debate team, and even though we were the most decorated and successful club in the school, we received absolutely zero funding, because the money all went to our subpar sports teams. We were always told that it was because the school had no money to give (which was true, we were in a very low-income part of town), but we had to scratch our heads a little when the football team got new jerseys and equipment every year, while Speech and Debate was $4,000 in debt.
@JSPHHAN Yeah, I have a lot of interest in fields other than computer science, like Spanish or Russian (Which I have been studying for some time) and world affair/politics classes. I’ve even gone to the office and requested them to open these classes for future semesters, but they just laughed at me like I was a little child asking for candies. Also, I really want a diverse group of students too, so that when I start a project, I can work with economists, artists, and more instead of only engineers.
@inordie Yeah, it’s always a bummer when you have a great idea but no money to pursue your goals. Well, here’s to hoping you get into Vandy and do all the things your previous university couldn’t/wouldn’t let you do. Sending good vibes your way!
@JSPHHAN Thanks man!! I really hope that we can meet in Vandy this fall. If I get into Vandy, I will most definitely go because I love this school.
@inordie Heyo, I’m a hobbyist artist. Actually it’s kinda one of the reasons why I want to transfer as well, for a diverse group of people. I want to be able to study things outside STEM and meet people who share those strong interests, coming from a strong STEM school.
@SunZhaoyu lol sounds like what I do at my current school. Just chillax, hang with friends, time commitments, and study non-stop.
Opened up CC, saw 58 notifications from watching this thread, and rushed to check MyAppVu. Had a smol panic attack when I saw there was no decision and opened up the thread to find out that people were just having a discussion, not posting about the first wave of acceptances.
@usualhopeful apologize for the disturbance
I can’t believe we are on page 71, and still no decisions.
@ConnorGrant19 LOL I just checked the 2016 thread and it had 39 pages TOTAL
this one may have started earlier. i was really anxious to apply to Vandy so i made it in like, what, november? LOL
Will it be this friday or next monday?. I’m 100% sure it’s going to be either of those dates.
@inordie Hopefully Friday? Who knows at this point.
@inordie
I reckon this Friday, since it’s “mid-April” as they’ve been stressing time and time again hahaha But then again, they did break the norm this year, right?
