Vanderbilt Transfer Thread [Fall 2018]

@illiniBoyi If you truly think it’ll make a difference, send it in now.

@Neurophile
Just curious but were you able to get an extension? I also got into Vandy but I have other schools that I am waiting on.

does anyone know if you have to stick with your applied major as long as you stay in the same school? I applied for neuroscience however I’m debating on switching to psychology

@illiniBoyi I would send it as soon as possible. It can only help. Good luck

@ObLiViOuSx99 I haven’t asked yet, I’ll probably send an email or call today. I called the other school on waiting on (Penn) and asked for an approximate date but was essentially hung up on.

If you’re a premed, I REPEAT DO NOT COME HERE!!! Your GPA will sink to the ground, unless you’re coming from a difficult top-tier university like berkeley or Wash U. If you’re coming from a state school and are premed, PLEASE do not transfer. It is not worth it. You can PM me for details as I am a transfer

@daCooliest How hard is Vandy overall even if it isn’t premed? I’m thinking of going to Vandy to study political science and HOD assuming if I am accepted.

@Neurophile
I’m also waiting on Penn and I hope that it comes out before the 10th, which is when I have to pay Vandy deposit. I heard that Penn will probs release decision around mid may so it’s likely after the deposit deadline, at least for me.

@daCooliest How hard is Vandy for majors like Economics?

Thank god I’m no longer premed haha. I am trying to go to grad school though, but if Vandy murders my GPA so be it. If I can’t make it might as well find out in undergrad rather than in Grad school.

Premed for transfers can be rough if you’re not used to the rigor, so there might be a little bit of a GPA dip your first semester or two. I feel like it usually works out though, since most people transferring in have a really high GPA from the school they came from (or else they wouldn’t have been admitted), and then the GPA picks back up again once you learn how to work in the system.

@ObLiViOuSx99

Non-STEM/premed majors are really not bad at all, I don’t think (engineering, CS, physical/biological science majors are all hard, but the GPA pressure on top of that can make premed a bit more stressful). I had a friend who double majored in neuro/econ, and what he said was that the hardest classes on the econ track (intermediate macro/intermediate micro) were sort of medium level, comparable to a reasonably challenging upper-level science course, but way easier than premed weed-outs. He took it alongside orgo as an “easy” class for the semester. You also see it in lifestyle; premeds with 3.9+ either went out 1-2 nights a week or maybe 3-4 while being completely dependent on adderall and stims. Econ majors with 3.9+ are often going out 4-5 nights a week without the adderall addictions. It might be different if you want to go in a really quantitative direction (like if you want to take math past differential equations and take a CS/Math major at the same time) since a lot of those classes can be tougher to pull As in.

@MBlue98

HOD is a complete joke in difficulty so don’t worry there. Obviously you still have to try if you want a high GPA, but the stress level there is not comparable. Probably one of the easiest majors on campus. Humanities/social sciences classes aren’t necessarily going to be easy (you may have to work hard), but you’ll get a good grade if you put in work. What sucks about the STEM weedouts is that you can work super hard for a B-.

@ObLiViOuSx99 My daughter is an Econ Major with a Business minor and a Psych minor. She found the two Intermediate Econ classes the most challenging of her two years in college, but we are talking B.

@futur3clssof2o2o A piece of cake to switch majors within the same college at Vanderbilt.

They just emailed me that they don’t offer deposit extensions.

@TerrierNation Guess that date with Lee will be postponed for a while.

How long after placing a deposit should we receive our email and account log in info? On another unrelated note, how feasible is it to double major with one major in one school and another in another? For example, I applied as Econ, but I would also want to double major in HOD I think.

@Eggyeol My D says, she thinks you can double major in Econ and HOD. Many double major at Vanderbilt and across colleges isn’t unusual. That said, Vanderbilt does not allow an HOD Major and Business minor.

Sorry, probably not much help.

@fdgjfg Discussing adderall on college confidential. Bold move.

@fdgjfg Also I’m shocked people can go out that frequently while maintaining a 3.9 as a premed, with or without erm, “PEDs”. They must have far better time management skills than me.

Does anyone know when the second wave of decisions will come out?
