@bloomfield88 That is helpful! I appreciate anything. I don’t know how to go about this without a dedicated advisor yet.
Most 3.9+ premeds probably aren’t going out at all, or if they’re doing recreational activities on the weekend they’re not drinking. What I mentioned is the far end of the spectrum, where you’d be pushing your body to the absolute limit (hence the stim abuse). Just trying to illustrate that even the most academically capable, wildest, and most risk-taking kids in premed can only go as hard as fairly chill, moderate econ majors for the same GPA. There’s just no comparison difficulty-wise.
@Eggyeol You’ll receive your email approximately 2 weeks after they receive your deposit.
Anyone thinking today will be the second day of decisions??
For those accepted, I received an email from Vanderbilt giving an estimate that all my credits will be transferred. I go to a community college so I’m sure the rest of you will be fine.
from last year’s thread the second wave was May 8
@mdeca12 I too received that email today, all of my credits transferred as well. At this point I am nearly ready to commit, as it seems I’ll be on track to graduate in time.
If any current students are on this forum, I have a few questions I’d appreciate if you could help me out with.
- Fiancial Aid Correct me if I am wrong, but I am under the believe that the EFC as calculated by FAFSA is meant to be split across each child the family currently has in college (i.e. if the EFC is $100K, and the family has two college students, the EFC for each student is $50K). I had heard Vandy is fairly generous with Aid, and that their calculated EFC is pretty close to that of FAFSA’s. However, my EFC for Vandy is essentially all of my family’s total EFC, despite the fact that I have a brother entering college this fall. Is that just the way it is, or will it change once we send in the final documents after committing? (at the time I submitted financial aid my brother had not committed to college, so we did not have any info on how much he would be paying)
2.Is it easy to get into all the classes you need for your major and gen Ed’s? Are most classes offered every semester?
I am thinking about adding a minor in scientific computing, but I would have to take 3 into comp sci classes in sequence, with 4 semesters until when I hope to graduate. As I’m registering late due to my transfer status, will I have difficulty getting into these intro classes that are likely quite popular?
Finally, if a class is full will professors usually accommodate a request to force add a student?
Sorry for the wall of text, just trying to make an informed decision. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
I’m confused, is it 3 credits per class at Vandy? Or 4?
They took only half of my credits and they won’t tell me which classes transferred…
@futur3clssof2o2o you should call the registrar, that seems pretty significant.
2 days before we are supposed to decide and deposit, that’s lame! Thank you for your response! @jackieswen
@transferunkown I think If you are in the second wave they will give you a later deadline, equal to the amount of time the first wave had. Also, since this years decisions were released later than last years’s, I wouldn’t expect the 2nd wave to come out on the 8th. They will probably come out shortly after the 10th, once they see how many people from the first wave committed.
I don’t think the decisions of the second wave have anything to do with those of the first wave. The delay is just because of the schedule of your assigned admission counselor. My counselor Shane told me he was on a university trip and wouldn’t be back in office until May 4th, which possibly caused the delay(though he didn’t say it explicitly)
I was accepted to Vanderbilt and I want to get a better sense of this school (I dont know much about it as i don’t live in the south). I have to pay deposit for Vanderbilt next week, however, I still have other decisions that aren’t yet released.
My questions are:
-Is Vanderbilt a good/prestigious school?
-What is the reputation of this school? Is it only popular in the south or nationwide/international?
-Is this school recruitable? Do employers like Vanderbilt or no?
-What schools is vanderbilt comparable to? Is it comparable to the likes of NYU?
I understand that some of these questions are vague and can be subjective but im open to anyone’s opinion of this school.
Thanks.
did anyone who applied and was accepted to vanderbilt:
did you have a withdrawal on your transcript from last semester or previous semesters that was a course you did not need for your major? My friend is thinking of applying for next year and is worried about this affecting his chances.
If you only have one withdrawal and you can explain it well. Then it’s no big deal
@ObLiViOuSx99 Perhaps, the easiest way to answer all your questions at once is to go to the most popular ranking in the U.S. Like any ranking it has its pros and cons and one can argue that a particular university should be up or down 5 spots, but it meets anyone’s eyeball test of the very best. Of the 2,618 accredited universities in the U.S. you will see the company Vanderbilt keeps. The upper echelon for all your questions.

I should mention ties are in alphabetical order.
Has anyone who has been admitted and already paid their deposit received any login credentials to be able to apply for housing?
Hey gang,
A few of the counselors here at Vandy OUA just told me that I am (quote) “legendary” on this thread so I had to see for myself…I’m glad I’ve been able to help y’all out and congrats to all admitted transfer students! This is actually my last day working at Admissions, as I leave for senior week tomorrow and graduate next Friday (so whoever was asking me out on a date, sorry dude). However, best of luck in your future careers at Vandy or wherever y’all end up–Anchor Down and Go 'Dores
(ps–if you have any questions about Vandy that I can answer as you make your decisions, my school email is lee.s.schmidt@vanderbilt.edu!)
