My son is an International student. Parents having college degrees is an advantage or disadvantage?
if parents donāt have a degree, kids get the first-gen bumpā¦
Being a first gen is an advantage- first one to ever go to college in family (parents never went to college anywhere in the world).
Daughter got in.

Rec letters were probably strong. Essays were good.
No legacy, but mom is from TN and parents both went to college in TN.
Iām not sure how many, but my DD is a current freshman and she has met lots of kids who were deferred who ultimately got in, including her roommate who was accepted to a couple Ivies. She didnāt get in until RD!
and I believe Vandy is not need blind when going to their waitlist and reserves something like 10% of the spots for waitlisted students (more or less depending on how their yield is going.)
When do scholarship awardees get notified? Do they conduct interviews for scholarships?
It might depend on the scholarship. S23 applied for CV. I donāt believe thereās an interview and I assume he wouldnāt hear anything unless he was awarded it and then only along with admissions decision. Super long shot in any case
Yes, it will be very competitive. Wishful thinking but would love a merit scholarship since would never qualify for need based.
same here. S23 has a strong chance at merit at some less elite schools. But extreme long shot at Vandy. Most of the schools heās applied to donāt offer merit at all.
Congrats to the kids who were admitted, looks like another tough year for admission to Vandy! DD was rejected, high stats student with solid but not exceptional ec activities. No regrets, she chose to ED Vanderbilt because it had the biggest spread between ED and RD of any of the schools she was considering. More surprising, we havenāt heard of any kids who were accepted locally and our area usually does pretty well with Vanderbilt. I heard rumors that they got a lot more applications this year, and the results seem to bear that out.
In 2017, they notified CV winners in mid-March, before the RD admissions went out. (Itās how my D found out she got in at all!) I thought they awarded all CVs at the same time regardless of ED or RD, but that was five years ago and YMMV.
Any applicants to Peabody on here? Just wondering if itās just as competitive as Arts and Sciences.
