The portal, not the decision.
Anyone have Julia Chapman as their counselor? In CAS and haven’t heard back yet.
@mocoon I am also applying to Tufts because my boyfriend’s there
@tuckeditkid sorry for the late response but I can absolutely tell you and the others about the transferring itself to Vanderbilt. My transfer experience was definitely beneficial to my success. At Vandy, you go through a formal orientation specifically for transfers, the way that you did when you were a freshmen. These couple days are fantastic because it gave me and other transfers the chance to form friendships with other transfers coming in (there are a lot of them). They do indeed hold a lot of events for transfers in the beginning of the year, such as dinners, lunches, a group trip to a saloon in nashville, socials, pregames, etc so there will be plenty of opportunities to meet people and get integrated. Because of orientation, to this day a healthy amount of my close friends are transfers, since we were able to bond initially during the first week. The one bad thing about orientation though is that they do treat it like a freshman orientation, so you have to go through all the mandatory lectures about diversity, honor code, dining halls, etc which is annoying because that time could be better spent towards social events.
That being said though I absolutely felt welcomed as I became integrated into the Vandy campus. Last year I read online a comment where someone said “Vanderbilt discriminates against transfers because they feel like they aren’t smart.” That is not the case at all, Vandy 100% embraces its transfer students, and in fact, when I met people one of the first things I would say is that I am transfer student because it was really easy to start conversations that way. So people will welcome you and will want to know about your story as a transfer student!
The first semester will not be easy since you have to adjust to a new life at a new college, but if you make a decent number of friends in the first couple weeks then it will only get better over time.
Yes it was monday when I got accepted
Thanks so much @altonm. i got the email on monday saying my decision was ready
@laithshehadeh Not a problem! You deserve it. May I ask which program you applied to?
Does anyone know if there is an official facebook group?
my counselor is anisha patel. I’m from cali and i applied for engineering. still haven’t heard back
So if we don’t hear back by this monday, are our chances pretty much gone?
@ek2019 Last year, Vandy released at least five waves, from mid-April to mid-May. Now it has only been two this year–hang in there! Don’t loose hope so early.
Hopefully it doesn’t take them until mid-May, I have to let my safety school know my decision by May 1.
@SeabornSam you might just have to put down a deposit
Can I get help from anyone who was accepted/knows what to do?
I was accepted but can’t confirm my spot until I hear from Cornell. Vandy says to respond by 5/2 and I’ve read something about needing to put down deposits. On Portal I can’t find out more information about specific deadlines regarding what to do next / when I need to have my deposit in, how much the deposit is etc.
Can anyone tell me how to find this information? I see a button for accept/decline on my portal page that I think might lead me to more information but I don’t want to click accept yet because I’m afraid this will bind me to going.
EDIT: okay I took the risk of clicking accept… and it turns out I’m stupid. All of this information shows up with another prompt about accepting your spot
@2Brown4MyOwnGood Do you mind telling me how much is the deposit?
@altonm thanks again! I applied into the college of arts and sciences to pursue a degree in economics
@owenrider it is $400. For me my decision is due by May 2nd.
@laithshehadeh Have you tried to ask for an extension?
@owenrider from what I’ve heard, they just say no.
@laithshehadeh it seems as most of the acceptances have been for CAS lately! Are you planning to go, or are you going to explore your other options?
